Hi guys,

Helping a cousin to build a rig. I have not been keeping up with the latest technology as I am still pretty contended with my bloomfield build.

The build which i have come up with(no overclocking)

CPU: i5-4570
Motherboard: MSI B85M-G43 (bundle - $356)
Rams: Gskills ripjaws 1600Mhz CL10 8gb(x1) $92
Graphics card: HIS 7950 IceQ (amazon) (215USD = $280)
SSD: Plextor M5P 128gb / 256gb $172 / $299
HDD: Hitachi 3TB ($175)
PSU: Seasonic G-series 550w ($110)
Casing: Coolermasters N200 ($60)

Total Cost: $1245(128gb SSD + 3tb HDD) / $1197(256gb SSD only)

Monitor, OS, kb, mouse, speaker all reuse

Any changes or additions i should make to the above mentioned build? Your inputs would be most welcome :)

Intel Core i5-4430 vs i5-4570

Use dual channel ram instead of single. Go with Kingston value rams to save a bit more if ya on a tight budget.

Other than that, no other comments cause don't know what ur cousin is using it for.

I have nothing much to comment on the GPU cause is still cheaper than you get it locally.

The ssd just get it locally.

Usage is for entertainment and gaming. Nothing too ram intensive i suppose but would prefer faster speed rams(1600mhz)

There is a $59 savings for SSD ($221 vs $280). I heard rma for crucial ssd also quite cheap?

Thanks for the feedback guys

You cant direct ship in M500... you will need a forwarder.... it will cost around US$12/14 for that small box. So, do add in shipping charges.

And, $280 is RRP, there are shops that are selling it cheaper. just have to do your research and compare.

8GB of rams should be enough... try get 2x 4gb sticks.

You are right. I should have checked for the free shipping before listing it down. Thanks for pointing it out.

Any crucial m500 promotions available atm? Choosing stability over performance, hence crucial.

I would stick to single ram sticks for stability. Dual sticks for future upgrades. I try to use as little sticks of rams as possible.

Convergent used to have promo.. now no more le.... you cna try plextor m5s 256gb... reliable as well, comes with 3 yrs warranty.. should be in the $250 and below... if not, can try the m5p 256gb with 5 yrs warranty at $288+/-.

Best is to get 2 sticks, if dat one stick fail, you are gg.... If you have 2, at least can still survive on 1 stick, and can go RMA your faulty stick while still using your com.

No. Dual channel is still better than 1.

You go to check the shipping. Its isn't cheap for the m500. You would probably pay an additional $13++ USD on the shipping portion. Thus making it an overall the most $30 cheaper than local. And I don't think its worth it considering a proper local warranty for 3 or 5 years. Next is if you were to ship 2 items together you gotta pay 7% tax.

Cant really say he ships both, since the HIS 7950 qualifies for free shipping whereas the crucial m500 doesn't....

If not too ram intensive, no reason to consider 16gb ram. 8GB Kingston value ram 1600mhz costs about $82-$85?

Anyway, I don't think there is much significant difference in performance between single and dual channel ram since your usage is mainly movie and gaming. For me, I will just go for the cheaper one if I'm on a tight budget.

Thats what i thought of regarding single/dual channel.

Wasn't sure of the price of kingston 1600 mhz 8gb, hence listed down the ripjaws.

And after 7 days? Still have to go back to distro, which may not give you 1-for-1 exchange.... If you are willing to take the risk, then by all means. Up to you........

Good point. My assumption was that non faulty rams would last long. And any faulty rams would be discovered within the 7 days.
