PC Desktop Housing

I have a desktop which I bought in 2012. Now the housing is getting old and I am thinking with replacing an alternative new housing since the PC is still functional. The old PC will be a backup system. Now as technology has improved, I am not sure in terms of housing replacement - how should I go around that? I mean is there any technicality I need to understand? Thanks.

Just need to see what form factor your Mobo is. MATX or mITX etc. see if u have any limitations, eg large cpu coolers, full size display cards etc

Once u have the info can just shop for a new case, based on your requirements and preference. After, perhaps one afternoon to remove the parts from the old case and put in the new case nia

The motherboard i have is the SATA and IDE. So is there any impact when choosing housing?

that does not have much impact. more on your motherboard size to fit into the new casing. perhaps you might be able to provide us your pc model so the other forumers might be able to assist you in choosing the casing.

No issues. Get a can of compressed air to clean the interior also since u gonna dismantle it. Might want to shun bian refresh the thermal paste also.

Minor point I encountered when I did something similar to you. Some cases only comes with USB3 front ports. If your old Mobo wun have USB3. Either u get one that has a USB2 front port/ get a USB3-USB2 adaptor or dun use the front USB port if not critical.

Your MB is ATX form factor so any case which supports ATX will work.

Most casings now come with USB 3.0 ports for the front panel whereas your MB does not have USB 3.0 header. You can either look for an older case with USB 2.0 on the front panel or add a USB PCIe card which comes with USB 3.0 header.

I got exact same board. Fantastic overclocker! Dont sell its very rare now. Just its abit hot at times.

I use this to convert usb 3.0 header on new casing.

U can upgrade the processor to run a 6 core x5675 (90W) which technically a i7 970 (120w) with lower tdp. U can further under volt it... Less hot and more power! and should cost ard SGD80 only.

1. I am not technical jargon but can you educate what is x5675 vs x5690 that comes with 130tdp? How do you know which microprocessor will fit to the motherboard? I just want to make sure if i change my CPU - it should be a better one and won't have any issue.

Scroll down to the "Package Specifications" part and look at the "Sockets Supported" spec, this is what you use to see which will fit the mobo.

FCLGA1366.

Your mobo is listed as supporting LGA1366 socket.

Both means same thing btw, 'FCLGA' is just the full name: "Flip Chip Land Grid Array".

Power supply just get seasonic focus 850w with 10yrs warranty. This lga1366 systems are abit power hungry. As for fans, try to avoid smaller fans as they are noisy. On how to change, youtube is your best frend

Apparently w3690 is a better chip compared even to i7 990x

I just tested x5690 on my board, and its working fine.

Recently i have time to look into the housing. Now in relation to power supply - the current configuration is using Antec Model EA-500D. If assuming I don't replace the power supply - do you think how long in your guys experience a power supply can last before it fails? (This Antec model comes with the housing when I bought it in 2012)

@gld998 I bought the housing (on the way shipment) but i am lost about the USB3.0 header. Do i just buy the header? Tell me
