I'm looking at MSI versions of 1080 ti and 2080 though. so back to my question, i will need a adaptor right since the motherboard hdmi port will not work due to ryzen??

If u have a discrete (dedicated) gpu, what ports your motherboard have does not matter already. You are supposed to connect hdmi/DP cable from monitor to dedicated gpu.

So, check your gpu rear ports. Most modern gpu will have hdmi and DP port at least.

Thats the case for my current com using GTX 770, i connect one HDMI to the GPU and the other HDMI to the motherboard cos intel processor has integrated graphics, so since ryzen 2700X doesnt have, means both HDMI has to go to the GPU right?
