PC help please :(

Hi guys,

My computer is suddenly unable to turn on. Nothing happens at all, the white LEDs on my ASUS Strix GTX980 don't even light up :'(

I took it apart and tested the power supply using paper clip test and case fan, and it works, so I believe my power supply is not faulty.

Now I would like to ask you guys could it be my motherboard or RAM that is damaged?

If it is motherboard, then where can I get a replacement? Current motherboard is an ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac paired with an i5 4690K. If it is faulty RAM, where can I get DDR3 RAM (if those are even sold anymore...)?

Or could it be due to other faulty parts?

Kindly advise, PC experts. I'm having withdrawal effects now and frothing at the mouth for not being able to play PUBG

RAM would not behave that way. Could still be PSU, or your motherboard.

I don't trust the paper clip method to test the PSU. It happened to me once. paper clip seems to work but when I used another PSU to test. My computer boots up.

TS, bring your rig to Nigel at #02-32 Sim Lim Square if you don't have spare PSU to test.

Paper clip test is no guarantee of full functional PSU as iichigoz mentioned before. More of testing if something short-circuited preventing power up.

Which PSU are you using?

It's not the RAM. Either PSU or MB.

You guys have a point, it could still be a faulty PSU. Will follow your suggestions to bring my PC to Nigel and let him check.

Assuming though if it's my MB that is faulty, anywhere I can still get an ITX MB, preferably brand new one, because I am a bit uneasy about using second hand pc parts lol. My cpu is i5 4690K.

I need to get this pc up and running asap, I have a lot of games I want to play:'(

It's almost impossible to find a new Z97 ITX MB unless you are willing to pay ridiculous prices for it on ebay. Even second-hand ones are seldom available.

You can check the usual suspects - Marketplace here, vr-zone and Carousell. Socket 1150 MBs pop up quite frequently.

In this case, you need to chat with the seller for delivery to Singapore.

Probably because they are very rare in SG market. The whole small is beautiful thing is a recent one, so high-end ITX boards older than Skylake-era are very hard to find 2nd hand.

Z97 ATX a good price for 2nd hand is around 100-150

Do you think the $190 ASUS Z97 ITX MB that hexenB linked is worth the price? Or should I just settle for the $100 H97 one? Since I don't plan to do any overclocking soon and besides the CoolerMaster 212 doesn't fit in my ITX case :'(
