PC Issues. What is wrong?

Hi HWC bros!

So I have been using my PC that I build 1 year ago on a daily basis. And 2 months ago I started having issues with it.

While playing dota 2 or even surfing the web with little load, it will just switch off by itself, and then fail to start up again when it attempts to by itself. It will keep trying to boot until
1: I get sick of waiting and just turn off the power;
2: It miraculously comes back to life and it works again.

This kept happening on and off. I removed everything, reapply thermal paste for CPU, tried booting only with ram (1 stick of 8gb) and cpu and this continued happening.

I brought GPU to check if it's faulty but distro said nothing wrong (still rma in the end to be safe). Brought PSU to check also and distro said nothing wrong.

Now I am really confused. Could it be the motherboard that is the problem?

ASRock H81m-HDS r2.0
i5-4460 (with intel default HSF)
Kingston DDR3 1333mhz 8GB (1 stick)
ASUS GTX950
Superflower Leadex Gold 550W
WD Blue 1TB
HGST 500GB
Crucial MX100 256GB

I haven't tried testing the ram yet! What are the symptoms of a RAM failure?
Should I use prime95 to test it? Not very familiar with ram tests =(

I don't have a spare one to test it with. Do you think that is the root of the problem?

take a spare psu and test. sounds like psu faulty...

I brought it to distro and he ran 3d mark with gtx1080 and everything seemed fine. Ran for about 1 hour some more..

oh another asrock h81 board again...not sure is it due to the batch or just plain unlucky. send your board to let them check. anyway u are not alone as well, since last year there were a few bros also have the same issues. (iirc should the same.)

I got similar issue with my pc as well.

Initially is auto shut down, the pc boot up and heard the windows login sound. But screen is black and not able to see anything. Sometimes the screen was fine, sometimes not.

Over the weekend i bootup the PC, everything was good but then the big problem came.

Constant bluescreen and restart automatically, im not even able to boot to desktop/safe mode to run some diagnostic test. Constant BSOD with error code (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, Critical process died and others etc). Not even installing a fresh/clean windows help. While installing 70~80% it will just BSOD and the process just repeat. Infinite loop.

Does anyone know what is causing this? Faulty ram or dying harddisk?

It sounds like a RAM issue. Try with 1 stick of ram or use a different stick. Harddisk dying quite unlikely for this to happen.

I am using Asrock H81M-DGS 2.0 and having the same issue.

Bought a new seasonic gold psu, radeon graphic card and ssd but problem persist.

It's an Asrock problem.

You'll have to seat and re-seat your RAM endlessly till it gets in that one perfect position where it wants to work.

And then you leave your PC there until the next time you have time to tinker with it when it breaks down again. Don't you dare even stare at it because that'll cause the RAM to go all funny again.

I'm not even kidding. As an owner of no less than THREE Z68 Pro3-M's and one Z77 Extreme4-M, this is life as it is.

FWAH really?! Then can I still bring the motherboard down to distro to get it sent for RMA? I really cannot stand this anymoe. Everytime it happens it is just so frustrating to deal with..

I have tested with memtest86 overnight and there was no error found. So is motherboard the real culprit here?

Alternatively, can try using an eraser and rub away at the ram sticks (gold portion and not too hard) sometimes got dirt accomulation/deposits that causes reading problems << so far this method worked for me whenever I receive that error or the common 4short beeps from the motherboard

anyway just bring your board and cpu with cpu cooler down to let them check and see.
