PC Overhaul

Hi guys, didn't really get myself updated on the latest stuff available.

Planning to overhaul my pc since my GPU is failing, decided to change the whole PC instead since it's getting old and starting to unable to support new games.

On my left are my current specs, is there any parts i can reuse, and would appreciate some recommendations builds under $800 to $1000, not including monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers, OS.

Saw on some threads it's good to buy off amazon for the GTX 760, would like advice regarding should I buy off amazon as well or just settle for a 660 from local shops.

Change everything.
Can keep things like mouse/kb/monitor/HDD/Optical drive can bring over too, no point getting optical drive nowadays too.

probably around 2-3 weeks if direct shipping, but currently gtx760 amazon dun have global eligible(free int. shipping) so u might need a middleman(comgateway/vpost) to ship to you....

if using cgw and have to pay additional shipping fees bohua already. Just buy a 2nd hand 670 for below $400 which is equivalent to the 760Ti and while you'll probably have a shorter warranty, it'll be a local one vs overseas. Once you open the box to use it becomes 2nd hand already either way what.

Which one should I get? Calculated should cost me around $370, much more worthwhile then paying over $300 for a GTX 660

GTX660 is good enough for most of the game in the market.

Currently waiting for my gpu to come, but now exploring the need for a ssd, don't really understand how it works, but let's say if i buy a 120gb ssd and install my os in it, will i have problems installing other applications in my hdd? And is the ssd worth investing?

no problems installing programs on either the ssd or hdd, you just need to select where to install when it prompts you for location. ssd has a better read and write rate so you can expect better boot times and installation times.

having used both before: i think if you're ok with a 30 second boot time compared to sub-10 second boot time and loading times currently on your pc, invest the money elsewhere...

SSD much faster in launching applications. And hardier because no moving parts n less heat.

Files can store in normal HDDs.

I would say SSD is a want, not a necessity.

i beg to differ...an SSD is the single piece of computing hardware that speeds up the entire experience significantly...all your bootup, response and load times for applications, games, web-browsing, etc will increase by as much as 5 times.

If u place a cheap Pentium G2120 + SSD system side by side against a i7 + HDD, the cheap G2120 will outperform the i7 for simple day to day tasks.

SSD prices have dropped a lot and are now affordable and value for money for the mainstream consumer.

Normal car vs Ferrari Loh. If have the money, go for it. Else, a normal car also takes u places too, at lower speed.

I said it's a want, not a need. Your pc still can work on normal HDD. Not as if without SSD will die.

If got spare budget, then go for it loh.

Yeah… Just thinking whether the extra 100 plus is worth for the boost, but can bear with the speed w/o ssd, so might as well spent it on other area instead…
