my PC windows 7 has persistent blue screen of death or unresponsive screen. it crashes like once every 1,2 weeks, not that frequent so it is quite bearable. I memtest86 the rams - they are ok. the problem could be anything. not really keen to change the parts one by one to test for the problem.

the crashes will damage my hard disk or not ?

thanks.

Run HDTune to scan hard disk for bad sector, do not check Quick scan.

Download and run BlueScreenView to see what system processes are causing the BSODs.

Run HDTune to scan hard disk for bad sector, do not check Quick scan.

the last 6 crashes
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED msrpc.sys Kernel Remote Procedure Call Provider
NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM Ntfs.sys NT File System Driver
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Ntfs.sys NT File System Driver
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED win32k.sys Multi-User Win32 Driver
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED win32k.sys Multi-User Win32 Driver

HDTune reported warning, reallocated sectors count is 130. error scan reported no damaged sectors.

HDD problem ?

Copy out all important files before this HDD becomes inaccessible.

I get the idea. the HDD is out of warranty. no way of saving the HDD like using HDD Regenerator ? it will gradually die off soon ?

I haven't had a pc crash for over 2 weeks. I removed a USB hub from the pc since the last crash. it is unlikely but could the USB hub be causing the previous crashes ?

Your usb hub could possible causing power drain depending on the number and type of power hungry devices connected.

the usb hub had only 1 connected device: a usb 2.0 wireless lan adapter, and it was there for years. I have connected the lan adapter to the pc usb port since the last crash, not using any usb hub now.

I noticed something. in the previous crashes, it happened within the first few minutes of turning on pc. so if the pc survived the first few minutes, it would never crashed, 1 hr or 10 hrs of pc usage. why ?
