PC PVR with old parts

Hi all,

I have these old parts.
1. P4 CPU
2. MSI 865GMS2 motherboard
3. 1GB Ram

I am planning to get this Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2215 tv tuner card PCIe.

My mobo only has PCI slot. So, I am planning to get a PCI to PCIe adapter like this one.

Any idea which SLS shop has this adapter ?

I will use Win XP for this set up.
1. Frontend - XMBC Frodo 12.3
2. Backend - NextPVR

Any comment on this setup is much appreciated.

Won't work for too many reasons

Get a proper USB tuner with hardware H.264 encoding and at least a recent-tech-comparable dual-core.

Why USB instead of tuner card ?

Makes wire installation easier, makes future compatibility easier, makes building a small PC easier

Also I have forgotten one thing now that we're in the digital age - hardware encoder cards are now getting hard to find, because digital streams are already encoded so they assume we don't need to reencode them further.

My objective for this PVR just to record free to air TV program.
Since my old DVD recorder is analog and it will become obsolete once the analog broadcast is stopped. I am just thinking of getting a dual tuner DVB T2 card. Can watch + plus record at the same time.

So slow that hell freezes over due to lack of molecular vibrations, probably.

This kind of spec is already struggling with 720p MPEG4-ASP

Even if the decoder and the memory/storage is able the keep up, the onboard graphics may not even be able to handle the overlay - that's how obsolete this system is.

I think a Core 2 Duo will do much better, let alone anything you see in the market today

The only reason I can see why the P4 is used is cos TS wants to take up the challenge of using only old parts?
