I made my PC 4.5 years ago any it is recently showing its age when playing some of the newer games. The specs are as follows:

i5-750 on gigabyte p55a-ud3 MB
4gb ddr3 Kingston CL9 1333mhz
sapphire 5850 1gb Toxic
wd 640gb Black HDD
andyson f500m psu
CM 690 II case

What are my choices for an gpu upgrade now with a budget of less than $400?

Another item is for a recommendation for a second monitor for gaming? Budget about $400 also

Well, there is the Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X which is sold for $285 at lazada.com. However, if you are willing to pay a bit more, you can also get the Zotac GTX 970 Twin Fan for $449, also at lazada.com. (I was planning to tell you about the discounts on every Monday for Mastercard holders (Credit and debit also can.) at lazada.com, but I had forgotten that the Zotac GTX 970 Twin Fan is also being offered at a special price for the duration of SITEX.)

The GTX 970, should you choose to buy it, would be capable of playing your games at mostly Max settings. The R9 280 would be able to play your games at High settings at most.

Any issues with bottlenecks and PSU requirements for the 2 cards?
Your i7-750 will not present any bottleneck with both GPUs. Your PSU should be adequate for powering these 2 GPUs.

However, I would not recommend that you try to game on 2 monitors as the GPU processing power needed to power 2 monitors is considerably greater than the power needed to run 1 monitor and you may have to reduce the settings in order to be able to game smoothly.

Instead of buying a second monitor, I would suggest that you take the $400 and buy a single stick of 4GB ValueRAM ($50) to upgrade your system to 8GB RAMs. You may also consider getting a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD ($160) as your OS drive as having an SSD as your boot drive will enable you to enjoy fast boot times and if you install games in the SSD, you will be also be able to enjoy reduced load times in the games as well.

Sorry I missed typed in the first post. I already have 8 gb of ram. The monitor I am getting is more for watching videos and connecting to my console than playing PC games across 2 monitors. My intentions has always been to play games on one monitor and watch videos on the other.

Oh, then you will be fine with a dual monitor setup. Quick, run down to SITEX now and see if you can get the Dell S2340L for $199.
