My current PC specs are as follows.

Processor : i5 3570 (3.40GHz)
Mainboard : Asus P8H77-M Pro
RAM : 16GB (4 x G-Skill DDR3 800MHz)
Graphics : Asus GTX570
SSD : Samsung 850 EVO (120GB)
PSU : Seasonic 660W

The above are bought since June 2012 less the SSD which was changed about 1.5 years ago.

Perhaps it's time for an upgrade and looking at the i5-6500 or i5-6600. Can anyone recommend a suitable mainboard for either of the 2 choices of processors? My usage is mostly emails (office work), surfing, videos and the occasional light gaming (Need For Speed).

Budget is about $600 - $700.

Thanks!

Dell 2412U and CM 690 II.

monitor support max FHD, so any range of the GTX 900 series shld work well for u, you case also big enough to support most GPU.

so i would recommend you to just upgrade your gpu or get a bigger size ssd if you need. maybe can wait till morning and hear the recommendation from the rest.

GTX 970 should be good and last u maybe few years but I highly recommend a used 280x or even a 290. Suggest 280X as they go for $220 or below and usually come with 1 year warranty.

There is no rush to upgrade and thought want to hear the opinions of the experts here. For me I was just thinking of upgrading the mainboard and processsor rather than the GPU and SSD. I have a new 120GB SSD from the RMA of the old Vertex 4 so I guess can save a bit liao. As for the GPU, will keep a lookout for it.

Also I have this small issue that popped up recently. I just upgraded to Viewqwest (1Gbps) plan during the recently IT Show. The installation was done well and everything is good. Of late I find my internet speeds going down to 15Mbps and the whole PC is lagging. I don't think it's the fault of the ISP because I run speedtest on my phone and still getting optimal (to my opinion) WIFI speeds (average 80Mbps on 2.4GHz and 235Mbps on 5GHz). At the point I only have bitorrent and firefox running. Anyone has encountered this before and is there anything I can do beside re-installing the system?

A new GTX970 is off my budget but I'll lookout for it on the 2nd hand market. Just saw a Zotac GTX970 (less than 1 month old) sell for $380. I see more people letting go of their 980s than other cards.

a gtx 780/r9 290 is usually priced at $250-$350, try to get these since they perform similarly to gtx 970

Would be great if can secure deal but don't think can find that easily though especially at that price point that low hmm

Maybe a 960/950? If looking to cut costs? If not pump more money for gpu since your main board and cpu don't really need upgrading
