PC won't turn on

Okay, I removed the 2 RAMs, a WiFi adaptor from the MoBo (just noticed it was there), the external BT adaptor and unplugged 3 cables that seemed easy to put back (as below)

I then did a reset of the BIOS by removing the battery for 5mins and reinserting after.

Here's what happened:

- The PSU & Case Fans ALL started spinning, lights of the fans came on as well (Good news?)
- I plugged in the monitor, but nothing was displayed (my monitor showed "no input detected")
- Also I noticed the everything would turn off after 21secs, and then restart again after 3 secs.
(I timed this a couple of times, this 'cycle' carried on consistently.)

Then, I long-pressed on the Power button to switch it off. Added 1 RAM back, and turned on.
It could turn on, no problem. So I shut down and added the 2nd RAM back in too. Again, turned on with no problem, but with some differences:

- The auto-restart cycle stopped, it doesn't turn off after 21secs anymore.
- When I plugged in the monitor this time, it could detect the monitor and it displayed "BIOS has been reset, please re-config your BIOS setup items if needed"

What do I do next? Connect my KB+Mouse first to enter/navigate the BIOS "OK" option?

OR add back the WiFi adaptor first, try again to see if it can turn on, before connecting the KB+mouse?

At which point should/could I start to add the SSD/HDD?

So it means your computer is working because total non-boot are usually MB and PSU only. You will still be able to boot if other hardware are faulty which u will be in boot cycle or no visual on monitor.

it is like due to some sleep bug based on your first post. Normally updating bios is the next time to do or go bios to adjust the power mgt setting.
However, since u are pretty bad at computer, just go window power management and prevent your computer from sleeping again.

Next, just connect your keyboard and mouse and the window SDD to sata 1 (so that you dont have to go bios to set the boot sequence). You should be able to boot to window. If that is fine, then connect your wifi and the remaining hardwares or connections.

When you boot without ram, it will always in auto-restart cycle and no visual (this is the correct reaction). This test is mainly for MB and PSU to ensure they are working.

Sorry for the long update, wanted to wait a couple hours to confirm before updating the below:

As suggested, I re-connected items one by one and each time restarting the PC to make sure it can still boot up. Turns out by the end of it, I was able to reconnect everything as per how it was before it died on me! Also, when I entered Windows I was actually brought back to the exact page it was set to Sleep the last time (wow). There was something weird at the start though, my KB+Mouse was SUPER laggy and that caused me a lot of delay when navigating through Windows. After about 30mins and a restart, it seemed to return to normal.

I've been running the PC for a couple of hours now and using it as usual, no anomalies detected so far. BUT, I realized that now when I reach the Windows login page it actually shows something about "Bluetooth authentication token" by default, and I have to use the keyboard to navigate to my normal login. Something I'd never encountered before.

While I'm SUPER GLAD that my PC is now up and running, I'm also slightly bugged that I didn't manage to find out which part of my PC might be failing (which caused it to die in the first place), and also the Bluetooth login part :s11:

Regardless, thanks a lot guys for your advice here! Really helped a ton! :s12:

Looks like you are using window 10. The laggy is likely due to window update and window reinstalling your USB devices due to changing USB ports when you replug in.
You can disable the bluetooth authentication by google the steps.

sometimes its a trial and error, no definite sure conclusion. but based from what u provided, i feel it lies around bios or ram module.

to avoid such happenings, besides a laptop where everything is integrated, its better to off the SLEEP function. Display off is fine, if need to be away for 30mins or so, i rather shut the whole system down.

if system time is correct, leave bios alone if u are not familiar with. other wise i would check for bios updates (if any)

windows - do windows update. Just to ensure sw is up to date.

do the usual system maintenance such as anti virus check, ccleaner.

Thanks for helping with the link!

Not too sure :\ Everything's running fine now with everything reconnected, unable to pinpoint a particular hardware/connection that might've caused the issue in the first place. Only thing I know is different is that I reset the CMOS..

I suggest you backup all your files into external HDD. Update your Bio, Windows update and Security Suite. If you have hardware diagnostic tool installed in your computer just need to run it to check.

I see.. got it. Yes you're right, I'm using Win10.
The Sleep was actually manually triggered for convenience, but seems like I should stop that.

Thanks for your clarifications and insight!

Alright, if so then maybe not a big issue I guess (if BIOS/RAM).

I actually started using Sleep only recently because I realised it was more convenient than shutting down/booting up, and also less wastage compared to idling. But I probably should avoid doing so based on you and xhlee87's replies, since that might be the cause of the accidental death.

System time's correct, so I'll probably leave the BIOS alone as I'm not familiar with it. I'll try the rest instead.

Thanks again for sharing, and help!

Yes! That's the first thing I did once I was able to run Windows normally, backed up my important files.

I'll work on the Windows update, and maybe look around online for the diagnostic tool. Thanks!

I will be using the same B450 chipset, so good chance windows will run without re-installation

see how it goes when the mobo arrives.

New mb, u need to format HDD and set up everything again right?
Updates:

Amazon order arrived 10 days after ordering, not too shabby in this current environment

Windows boot up without re-installation but both my Win10 Home and Office 2019 got de-activated due to new mobo detected. A call to microsoft automated helpline fixed both issues, though
