It's the responsibility of the customer to check if the order is correct (item description and price inclusive of GST). Errors may happen by mistake and do not attribute everything to a malicious intent to scam. So in any SLS shop, be it TradePac or PC Theme, before they start assembling the parts, check and confirm the order. Usually they would gather all the ordered parts still sealed in their retail boxes/packaging and put them at the counter in front of the customer for his examination. For example like this:
Once assembled, I do not know if they allow customer to open up the case panel to check the installed parts inside again or not, or they simply seal into the casing cardboard box. If possible, do a physical eyeball check make sure the parts are installed and nothing is left out. If they also allow a power-up on the spot, then go into BIOS check the RAM and storage drives detected, or boot into Windows and run some CPU-Z or GPU-Z kind of hardware info tools from a thumbdrive for a quick check on the installed parts.
Main thing is to do a quick check and resolve all issues on the spot within the shop before leaving to avoid unnecessary dispute. Anyway, those SLS PC shops would rather spend more time assembling more PCs for more customers, than waste time scamming people.
As already said, those scammers are more of those in level 1 and 2 selling cameras, camcorders, and mobile phones. Usually they have no customer and are idling around, that's why they have so much free time to think about scam tactics. TradePac and PC Themes don't even have enough time to tend to their customers, much less to scam them. U just have to see the crowd on weekends and you will know.
Just follow the Singaporean habit: if the crowd is there and queue is long on weekend, it must be good. If no customer and no queue on weekend means could be:
