Hello all,
I would like to ask for your views/opinions:s22:.

I'm currently awaiting my results for my final year NITEC, haven't do NS and my cumulative gpa is 3.4 excluding the 0.1 CCA bonus points. I might try to apply for poly through JPAE depending on my results but i know that the chances of me getting accepted are very very slim.

I'm planning to take a diploma course(General Business/Finance) at either PSB or Kaplan but i'm not sure which institute offer a better degree for business related courses. I was planning to go to PSB then try to apply for UOL degree at SIMGE but i didn't take 'O' Level so i can forget about getting in. SIM told that RMIT considers "Good private diploma on a case by case basis" but i also doubt it's highly unlikely i'll get accepted.

I know most or some of you will say that private diplomas/degrees are not recognised/worth it etc. but i don't think i would like to take another 2 years(Higher Nitec), 3 years(Poly), 3-4 years(Degree) not forgetting 2 years of National Service. I would appreciate it if you guys could share your experience/view/opinions on the degrees offered by PEIs. Thanks!

I will still advise you to go through the local poly route

Do you need higher nitec to go poly?

If yes, just do your higher nitec. Trust me, its worth it, your GPA of 3.4 shows that you are consistent in your academics performance!

If no, try applying through DAE instead of JPAE.

If you really really want to go through the private route, try taking SIM diploma.

If I don't get accepted VIA JPAE then I'll have to go through Higher Nitec first before I'm able to apply for poly. By the way, what's DAE?

The thing is, I don't meet the entry requirements for SIM as I don't have O level certificate and to be able to even take SIM's diploma courses I will still have to take a foundation course which entry requirement states that I need at least a Higher Nitec! Which I don't think It's worth it as it would be better to apply to local polys with a Higher Nitec Certificate.

But back to the topic, I know it's stupid but one of my concern is how much time it will take to complete the entire education phase luh...

DAE refers to Direct Admission Exercise. You can just apply to the polytechnic directly on a case by case basis instead of going through JPAE.

Well in that case, I strongly urge you to take your higher nitec if it boost your chances of entering a local poly.

I understand what is your main concern actually, your age. My advise is don't be too concern of your age. I known of people who went through
nitec->higher nitec-> NS-> Poly-> Uni.

So what if you take a longer time to reach your university goal?

Remember this, education is a rewarding journey. It doesn't matter how long it takes for you to reach your goal, what matters most is that you reached it eventually!

Seriously, don't waste that GPA 3.4 of yours! :s12:

I think I'll try to apply for JPAE first since the application opens around February 2019 and then DAE which is around April first.

Anyways thanks a lot for your time man! Now I'm leaning more to taking the local route haha :s13:
