This is an incredibly annoying problem that impedes my work and leisure. When I'm teleconferencing with clients on Skype the constant lagspikes are incredibly annoying. When I'm gaming in a FPS, my latency would grow from 5 to 999, swing back to 5 and spike to 999 again. In Mobas or RTS i.e. League of Legends and Wargame: Red Dragon, it would make me freeze up and eventually cause me to disconnect.

ISP: MobileOne Singapore
Type of Connection: Fiber
Router: TP-Link Archer C7
Firewall: Firewall temporarily disabled, problem still persists.

I'm using an Archer C7 at my current place (moved my good stuff to my new place ahead of moving) and I can tell you that it's a POS router with constant drops and practically non-functional 5GHz.

And this is the v2 hardware with updated 5GHz card.

I have the exact same model.

My dad's having problems with a wired connection to his IPTV as well.

Should I change the router? And which brand/model/retailer would you recommend? I'm probably never going to buy from Challenger again.

If you are looking for an AC router then the safe bet would be a Broadcom chipset based router, off the top of my head,
- Asus AC66U
- D-Link DIR-868L
- Asus AC68U
- Netgear R7000

In somewhat ascending order of price. Asus is the safest bet in terms of overall package of firmware user friendliness, warranty and wifi performance.

Thanks!

I managed to return the bloody thing just in time at Challenger, threw in an additional $110 and got the AC66U. This looks promising. Will report back on progress.

Why is your DNS set to the Router's Gateway?
