Hi, am planning to go on a road trip from Perth to Melbourne and back from Melbourne to Perth by rental car somewhere around April next year.
Anyone done it before and would like to share their experiences?
Thanks!
Oh dude. No. No no no no no. Don't do this.
Have a look at a map. Australia is a massive place, and most of it is empty. Perth to Adelaide is 2,700 kilometres of driving, and you're only two-thirds of the way across the country - and it is quite literally 2,700 kilometres of
this. Just in case I haven't made that clear, Perth to Adelaide is like
driving from Singapore to Vientiane, and there is literally nothing. There's maybe a petrol pump every 300-400 kilometres. If you have a breakdown you're completely screwed. And don't get any ideas about speeding, because cops infest that stretch of road looking for idiots who think they can speed because it's big and empty.
And by the time you get to Adelaide, you've still got another 800km - Singapore to Penang - to get to Melbourne.
Perth is great. Melbourne is great. But between them is four solid days of nothing.
