Phone connectivity

Can I check with you guys, the duration from when someone calls your phone to when the phone rings, is that limited by the phone or the service provider?

Depend on the Telco setting.

Starhub allow up to 30 seconds for the ringing duration.
Once 30 seconds reached, the call ring will be cut off.
If there is divert set either to voice or another number by receiver, it will be diverted.

Singtel is much longer.
So is M1.

Apologies, what I meant was the duration when someone call u till they hear the ringing tone. I got some people telling me that it takes longer for them to hear the ringing tone when people call me.

could be either the signal or maybe its your phone issues, that causes the delays.

Connecting duration varies on conditions.
Caller telco different may take a few second.
Calling oversea takes longer time to connect.
Receiver too far from signal take longer timing.
Hence there is no clear timing as depend on the abovementioned conditions.
Also receiver will hear the ring before caller hear the ring tone.

It may take a few second as this depend the caller Telco getting to connect to the receiver telco.
Oversea and out of reached receiver may take slightly more second.
Once it connect, this means the receiver ring first, then the caller hear the ringing tone.

Sometimes you may hear the phone ring once then end or stop ringing.
This could be due to the fact that the caller did press the dial key and then realize wrong number input.
Although the caller at this point decide to end the call, the connection could be already went thru.
That's why the receiver will hear the ring before caller hear the ring tone.

There are different causes for Long waiting times:
- CSFB (Drop from 4G to 3G before voice call comes in). Much longer if coverage is weak.
- Interoperability (Calls from one network to another.)

Typically, a call can be established much faster only if:
Same Operator (Digital line via Fibre OR mobile line with VoLTE on both ends).

I’ve made calls with the connection being established as fast as within 0.5s (Digital landline <-> digital landline; both on M1 Fibre), within 3s (VoLTE <-> Digital landline OR VoLTE; all three on M1 network).
But if CSFB or interoperability (within Big Three) is involved, I’ve seen waiting times as Long as 10-15 sec for the call to be connected. Almost thought my phone had problems a few times while this happens.
