Photo/Video management

Had been using this Monument 2 smart photo storage device. Its been a while and they seem to no longer support any updates on it which may just die on me anytime.

Want to get something else to store and that's hopefully able to sort it automatically (non-cloud). Am not familiar with Synology's stuff, do their NAS have this facility? That aside, may I know what do you guys use or can recommend me on this?

Just buy google one subscription, its not going to drop support anytime. You can buy up to 30TB storage, fully managed by google, secure with redundancy. The time you save is totally worth it, use it to advance your career.

If you want self hosted.. can consider nextcloud, but to setup redundancy locally not cheap.. initial cost high, operational overhead high, maintenance time depend on your luck, with HDD failure rate shooting up year after year.. not something I would recommend.

using google pixel phone and google photos when i go to whatsapp and weixin folders and move photos over to camera folder when photos land there at top, not order by time

Downsides of cloud service is upload/download speeds.
Having a NAS in your home network means faster dl/ul. NAS like Synology have apps for MAC/PC/Android to transfer not only photos but practically any data, locally and remotely.
I don't trust cloud services for the privacy of personal photos/videos that I deem priceless.
Having a NAS gives me control over my data.
