Yes, it blocks un-necessary traffic
Especially those that want to snoop your data.

Recently setup pinhole on a raspberry pi 4Gb. My router DNS is set to raspberry pi DNS. also the DHCP in the router turned off and set the DHCP on the pihole.

Notice that some ads in YouTube are still hit and miss.

Anyone knows of good set of block list?

I find that hardwarezone forums don’t work very well with Pihole. Everytime I go to a forum page, I get a white page for ~ 5 secs before the forum page appears. This problem only seems to appear on my ipad. No issues with iPhone or safari web broswer on iMac.

Anyone experienced the same and manage to solve this? Whitelisting hardwarezone.com.sg and forums.hardswarezone.com.sg doesn’t seem to resolve this.

hmm. I wonder what changed that did the trick. Maybe I'll reenable it for a few days and see how.

So far I've only discovered hardwarezone with this problem. It shows a blank page of about 10 secs whenever I try to load a hardwarezone page.

Am facing the same issue using pihole too. Any idea how to fix?

I have just gone through the exercises of migrating from Cloud based Pi-hole to local Pi-hole Docker Container under both OpenWRT (Raspberry Pi 400) and Asus RT-AX82U. The two Pi-hole containers are running on an mini PC running Ubuntu Linux.
Ref: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/containers-for-home-network.6656260/page-2

I set up Pi-hole as the LAN DNS server for both OpenWRT and Asus RT-AX82U.

Asus FW may have issues with Pi-hole. Here is a FAQ from Asus. But using Pi-hole as WAN DNS may not be a good idea if you run local Pi-hole instances. But if you run Pi-hole from the Cloud maybe that is the only way. Right now I am using the RT-AX82U 386.41700 FW version and use LAN DNS method (need to use static IP address with the local Pi-hole server).
https://www.asus.com/US/support/FAQ/1046062
For now I still set the WAN side (both Asus and Openwrt) to use the Pi-hole Cloud based DNS as the primary DNS and "1.1.1.3" as the secondary DNS. So far it seems to be okay. Maybe I will remove the Pi-hole cloud based DNS in the future.

Testing of DNS Leak:

Testing of Pi-hole ads-blocking:

I can get 100% with the huge list mentioned here using my laptop for testing.
