$4999 for the 507 at COMEX

Hmm...

So folks who paid $5000 for this panel are stupid? That was the offer price at the Pioneer booth

Esp when the original price was 8k plus and the last posted price was 6k plus?
Having insulted most of the Pioneer owners I don't think they will be inclined to answer any more of your many posts on panels, tubes, and amps, esp since its been all NATO

You are entitled to your opinion of course that Pioneer owners are idiots, its a free country

Bought 427XG at Comex, salesman says gonna give us free 2 year extended warranty. But now when the deliveryman came with the papers said we have to pay $550 for the extended 2 years. Is it worth to purchase the warranty?

$550? I don't think so, thats a lot. Ask them to explain the cost
I bought the tv is because the salesman said 1 year warranty + another 2 year free. So i thought the deal was good as at 3399 you can't get 427XG with 3 year warranty and HT. So now the tv only comes with the original 1 year warranty and HT plus a letter of 2 year extension warranty. Now the pioneer people are coming down to set the things. Gonna see what shyt they gonna say.

Do you guys normally extend your warranty for pioneer tv? I'm afraid that the TV dies straight after the 1 year warranty finished.

Hey TS, thanks for thread, seems to make bit more sense to me now, all the stuff i've read abt LCDs and all, I have only a few qns and I sure hope you have the answers.

Firstly, I'm thinking of getting a 32' for my bedroom, HDB flat type of room, so not huge.

I will use it for watching SDTV , and of course most IMPORTANTLY, to play my Xbox 360.
Watching DVDs through the 360 as well.

For these purposes, will getting a 32' make sense?
Any recomendation as to which 32' I should get?
Thanks much in advance.

Hi

The screen size depends on your viewing distance, see the calculator in earlier posts.
Bear in mind a 32" is much smaller than a 29" 4:3 CRT for SD TV. After you buy one, then you will see how puny the screen size is.

I don't keep track of small size screens, why not post the question and see?
A few folks got new screens in the COMEX, ask yourself how much you want to spend and what is it for first.

I don't think a screen smaller than 40" will give you that cinema effect

Try October for the launch, but are you willing to pay say 7-8k for a new 50"?

Bear in mind they are not cheap, and retain a premium pricing. If you want a VFM panel, the 507 may be priced to sell by then.

Any major difference between 507 & 508?

Here's are some reviews on the 508:

To put a number on what Pioneer has achieved, the 50in PDP-508XD KURO model we’re looking at here claims a contrast ratio of 16000:1 – the highest ever seen on a plasma TV – delivering black levels said to be 80% deeper than anything Pioneer’s achieved before. And don’t forget that this is accomplished without any of the backlight reduction-style chicanery LCD screens use to achieve their often hilariously over-stated contrast ratios. This is a ‘pure’ contrast ratio figure, and if the final picture quality fully bears it out, it should deliver not just a progression but a genuine quantum leap on flat TV black level reproduction.

Found this photos with the 508 on the top and 507 on the floor:

Got some information from Pioneer Singapore that they will launch the 8th-Gen model for this region somewhere in the end of OCT or early NOV 2007 depending on our shipment from Japan. Hope the price won't be too shocking! :D

Don't bet on Pioneer offering cheap prices, they are catering to premium market and have no wish to compete with the supermarket models.
If you want a cheaper option, try Panasonic which is trying to corner the local market with their SG assembled 42" screens.
Bear in mind though that the 42" is barely bigger than the 4:3 size of a 34" CRT.

What was the launch price of 50" 507? S$9999? :o

I was not around to see the SRP, but it was not cheap, you don't see a lot of folks asking for the Pioneer, many more buy Hitachi / Panny or opt for smaller panels in HWZ.
Even in the xtreme crowd which defer to HT more than gaming and PC stuff, only 2 owners there registered as 50" owners.
Get your big wallets out if you want the Kuros.
