Hi, can anyone please share their experiences from their hiking/ trekking trips? Are there any recommanded hikes/ treks? I had trekked Mount Batur in Bali last year and have been hooked by this activity since.

Check out the hiking trails in HK. If you are keen on another volcano, there is Mt Bromo and also Merapi.

Am planning for Upper Svaneti next year. Didn't have sufficient time to do it last year while I was there. Probably the Camino trail too.

Are you willing to go anywhere? Last month I was in Zion National Park and hiked Narrows and Angel Landing trail. Here is one photo from the latter one.

Yes! But money is a concern. Hahah I'm still a student.

there are lots of hills and mountains for hiking in malaysia such as brogo hill and sungei lembing. most can be done as a weekend trip, some even a day trip.

tropical hikes can die, therefore I usually go south midyear, and north year end.
avoid summer crowds too

Yeah! My friend went nepal with a proper guide and friends and she mentioned that it's a great experience. And the views are amazing.

for nepal, u can go for the poon hill trek for a start.
shld be manageable for most ppl. it is a 4-5 days trek, each day trek about 4-6hrs only.
a bit commercialised though, so meals are all in canteens, proper accom every night with hot shower, no need sleep tent (not good for those more adventurous ppl =:p).

Was just looking for information on Mount Rinjani and i saw this thread. I did a short trek in Nepal last year, 3D2N, from Dhampus to Syauli Bazaar. as what evilerniex mentioned earlier, it is commercialized, with proper accom and hot showers after the day's hike. i would recommend it as it is a good introduction for the uninitiated city dweller (such as myself)

Recently came back from hiking in the French alps from the town of Chamonix.

It's hiking heaven over there, endless trails and insane views. I went at a bad time (May) where all the lifts and cable cars are closed (except Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers Mer de Glace), so I had to hike up to the station, and THEN really start the hike further up.

June-September is the peak summer hiking period where everything gets a little pricey, that's why I went in May. It's really something to just wear a t-shirt and hike up till there's nothing but snow and you're still feeling hot as f*ck. Oh u need to apply sunscreen for UV protection at those heights as the UV rays are extra strong the higher you go, I was sunburnt on just my first day.

Highest point is Mont Blanc at 4810m. I climbed to about 2300-2500m on the other trails, any higher would be tough as there was still snow and I didn't have the right equipment, certain areas require mountain climbing experience as well.

Chamonix itself is very beautiful

Walking on snow was a b1tch but i didn't have a choice lol.

Anyways all my hikes were completely unguided, just buy a map from the tourist office for 4.50 euros and head up yourself, there're signs everywhere so don't worry. The only point where I needed help was when the signs were buried in snow or worse, the trails itself covered with snow lol. Just ask the locals where to go and they'll give u the general direction, so at certain parts of my hike i bushwacked my way to the destination and even rockclimbed cos I was completely lost hahaha. It's the most fun i've ever had in my life. I've hiked in Switzerland and Austria but I think this is the best, though i've not been to Zermatt so I can't judge Switz completely yet.

My next stop will be the Himalayas, prolly the greatest in terms of elevation and scenery. (anyone looking to do EBC, Annapurna Circuit?)
