Went there in 2014, it was easier then with flights from SG to Sao Paolo via SQ.
Huayna Picchu is a must go as well, each day only allow 150 or 300 pax (I forgot which) up there.

Im interested! was planning to go this year with a friend but he couldn't make it. Postponed it to next year but turns out he's getting married so im trying to look for people to go with too!

South America sounds interesting, am currently saving up to go travelling but prolly have to save till end of year for a good enough buffer zone.

if you go Argentina, you can also make a trip to Antarctica. Boats going to Antarctica leave from the southern city of Ushuaia during summer (year end for South America).

My flight itinerary for 25 days trip in 2016. Was supposed to be on SQ SIN-BCN-GRU flight but they cancelled thus they arranged for me other transit flights due to my accommodations booked.

Anyone thinking of going to South America?

Very interested of going to visit Machu Picchu (awesome views) but none of my friends are interested in visiting South America as they say it's very dangerous place to travel like gangs, drugs, human trafficking, weapons and so on. I'm giving myself 2 years to save up and I will see how it goes by then.

i was just aggressively watching the youtube videos during the winter solstice last 21st Dec 2016. ( as in maybe 2-3 hours worth of watching)

you know there's this particular windows that traces the sun's path on that day right?

Well South America is actually more expensive than North. Brazil is the most expensive in my trip followed by Chile, Argentina, and cheapest is Peru.

A typical meal in Brazil cost about $10-$20, not to forget transport costs too. Trip from Cusco to MP cost abt $100+ return too

Have you stayed only at 5* hotels? How much was airfare from the cost?

I had a business trip couple of month ago to both US and Brazil - went to US, then to Brazil, returned to US and back to Singapore. Both SIN-US-SIN and US-Brazil-US tickets were US $2100.

A typical meal in Brazil cost about $10-$20, not to forget transport costs too.

Only in case if you decide to eat at cafes/restaurants only. And even with there, there are cheaper option, here it was dinner for two:

Purchase - RESTAURANTE ASIA BR LT- FOZ DO IGUAC- (47.30 BRL @ 2.3474) $20.15

As for as transport - in Brazil, within the city, if Uber is there it will cost you 3x cheaper comparing to taxis. For intercity transport - different options exist, but to minimize time - use planes.

Also, if there is monopoly/tourist route (Cusco-MP), than you are screwed. Like this, there is only one airline operates to Galapagos Islands from Ecuador and R/T ticket is $ US 600 and citizens of Ecuador are paying less than half of that price. Add on top of this $100 park entry fee.

But at the end - going to South America from Singapore will be more expensive than going to US or Europe.

Mostly 4-5* hotels due to staff rates (USD69-USD109 per night)

Took Peru Rail(Cheapest Option) for the Cusco-MP route.

Wow, thats cheap for your food. I had mine in the mall food court in Sao Paulo and that was the price I paid

My airfare was about S$600 with 148000 KFmiles for Business Class (its a 26hrs flight...) And Yes, the flight cost of going to SA is gonna hit at least 2.2K return from SIN via Emirates

Reminded me of my 23 days SA trip in dec 2015... SG -> Barcelona -> São Paulo by SQ promo 1.6k if I remember correctly
Countries covered: Brazil Argentina chile Peru Bolivia.
Total trip cost $7k. Amazing experience.
