Playstation 3 Fat version question!

Hi All, I have an playstation 3 fat console which is faulty on motherboard but will like to retrieve back my data.
was thinking is it possible to work if i transfer the hard disk from my old ps3 fat to another ps3 fat console?
Appreciate any experienced or expert could answer my doubts. Thanks in advance.
