I am planning to build my first pc and i hope everything will turn out well..budget is 1.3k-1.5k max. Will require a new monitor (if possible to work within the budget) as my current one is philips 170s (so ancient...). Would not need os, keyboard, mouse as I already have them

Wish to play games like dota 2, watch dogs, and maybe the witcher 3 and gta v at high/max settings in the future, in 1080p will do.

I have come up with the following build using references from google search as well as other threads in this forum but am unsure of what gpu to get so as to not seem overkill.

As such, please advice me on how i can improve/get to make my first rig a good one. All the prices are taken from tradepac price list. Thanks!!

msi h87m-g43 + i5-4460 = 347
wd blue 1 tb = 68
kingston hyperx fury 4x2 kit 1866mhz = 99
curcial mx100 126gb = bought from amazon for 99usd last time
superflower leadex 550w full gold power modular = cant be found
fractal design define r5 = ??
gpu = ??

i5-4460 + MSI H81M E35 @ 308
Crucial 2x4GB DDR3-1600 @ 78
WD Blue 1TB @ 72
Samsung DVD Drive @ 21
Zotac GTX970 @ 475
Seasonic M12-II 520W modular @ 95
Corsair 100R @ 89
Dell U2414H @ 339

Total 1477

IMO your choices are pretty good for your first attempt

However...
1. I picked the H81M-E35 over the G43 cause it has more USB 3.0 slots. However if you would like to expand your RAM slots, the G43 is pretty good. If you like ATX boards, the B85-G41 PC Mate is pretty sufficient.
2. H and B series boards only support up to DDR3-1600 (which is why my RAMs run up to 1600MHz). If you want the HyperX Fury, look at the Z series boards. The cheaper RAMs are actually sufficient and don't have much of an effect in real world performance though.
3. Leadex can be found in Lazada, the rig I suggested is for convenience (pick up and go)

Ahh thanks for the reply! The rig you provided looks good but may I know if there is any difference between the h81m e35 mobo and the g43 that I chose? I am pretty bad at this so please bear with me =/
As for cooling and air flow of the casing, which one would be better? I have seen some threads with people recommending the define r5 which is why I chose it despite the price....if let's say the 100R has good air flow then getting it would be worthwhile.

Lastly, any major performance diff between 1600mhz and 1866mhz? Didn't know about the boards supporting up to 1600mhz only...saw 1866 ones on amazon and was so tempted to buy but luckily i asked before doing so...... =p

H81M E35
-cheap
-2 more USB 3.0 ports at the back than most entry level motherboards (including B85M G43), which could be more beneficial for most users

B85M G43
-more RAM slots (2 more than H81M-E35)
-support for CrossFireX
-2 more SATA 6.0Gbps ports

Define R5 is an excellent case. Silent, great amount of options for water cooling, cable management is good, a lot of drive cages with a very modular design.
The 100R is cheaper but it is not too shabby either. The casing industry has evolved really quickly and now many features trickle down to casings at lower price points. Very clean looks, sliding drive trays, enough room for your graphics cards, good cable management. Cooling is pretty good also, good enough for most users. Of course you have room to upgrade fans in the future like the R5.

There is little real world performance difference between the 1600MHz RAM and the 1866MHz RAM. I bought my Corsair Vengeance for colour matching

Nice explanation you've got there. Now I understand the good and bad of these parts. Guess Ill go with h81m e35 then! As for the casing ill probably stick with define r5 as I really like the sleek look of it and Im going to use it for the next couple of years.
As for the monitor, is there any other monitor that may be cheaper and of the same quality? sorry im bad at monitors too :s13:

That dell monitor is good and good looking so I recommend that, if you are looking for cheaper options from Dell there is the S2340L @219. If you don't mind Korean brand there is the AOC I2267FWH at around the same price
