PLEASE HELP ME. Should I restart poly?

Hello everyone.

Thank you for checking out this thread.
I'm currently a year 2 studying business in Ngee Ann Poly and I'm having thoughts of re-enrolling simply because I have screwed up my GPA and no matter how much I study from now, it's impossible to pull it up to a suitable score. Suitable score in the sense that I'll be able to enter the top 3 unis in Singapore. I really want to go to a local uni and not disappoint my parents but it is too late now so I really wish for another chance. It's just that I think it'll be hard to adapt to the new life with new friends and also, I've been very committed in special interest groups in BA and I feel like I'm throwing away the opportunities and experiences I have because my positions will be revoked once I quit and re-enter. (Also, CCA points but that's not the main thing) Anyone else been in a similar situation?

How bad was your GPA? If you are re-enrolling, will you be doing the same course? What course are you trying to get into exactly in uni?

Hello,
The polys may restrict your re-entry into the same or similar course as government spends quite a fair sum of money subsidising your poly studies. Also you may need to spend an additional 2 years.
Maybe you can manage your expectations and go to SIM or PSB or MDIS. If you are the top student in the private unis, employers would want to employ you rather than a below average student in the local unis.

There's nothing wrong with going to non 'prestigious' schools like NUS, NTU etc. MDIS or even just diploma graduates can make it well, if you work hard enough. I'm not talking about climbing conventional corporate ladder built on academic papers.

You will be surprised to see what some of your same age group are doing on the side for the future life (LEGALLY, not shady dubious stuff).

Most of which has to do with sales to my knowledge.

It's about more of .. which path you decide to go on in the end. Conventional straight or taking your calculated risk on deviations.

Even if you re-enter, will you be able to get a GPA that could get you to enter the top 3 unis? If you think so then maybe you should consider. Friendship can be forged again and cca points can also be collected. In the end, your priority is still your results.

But like Allistic said, there's nth wrong in entering a non-prestigious school. Your work ethic will take you further in the end.

If you restart, you will waste 1 year of school fees and no guarantee that you will get a good GPA. Sometime you have to accept the situation you are at.

Restart and start afresh. Get serious and study hard for a 3.5++GPA. Easier to find a job and also go to local Uni after you graduate.
