Hi laojiaos, trying to build up a PC with a budget of $2k - 2.5k. Main purpose of PC is for games (open world 60fps high settings can already) and little bit of video editing. Can anyone help to see where i can cut cost?
Questions:
Should I get Ryzen 5600 series CPU instead to lower the cost? Alderlakes now quite expensive
Liquid cooler seems expensive, any other cheaper cooler recommendation?

Planning to get a white build and was going to buy from aftershock, but now trying to DIY abit with the below list I've researched to see if i can get a good deal in SLS, if not I'll just go back to aftershock.
Can the lao jiaos here help to rate this build and see if there's anything i should add/remove, trying to keep the budget ~$3.5k - $4k and using my 34 inch monitor to game and video edit a little.
I mean not that Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite is a bad board but for a DDR4 board, you save around 200+ bucks if you get the MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4 which have good feature set. The case you are using, either will provide good airflow if you pair up good case fans. I rather you spend the 200 bucks saved to get a 1TB m.2 SSD like the Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB or Teamgroup T-Create 4.0 1TB.
Don't get me wrong, any branded m.2 nvmes in general are good as majority of PC users uses their PC mainly for leisure or for gaming, even getting dramless, it will not have significate effect on them, As they only read more often than write.
If you use m.2 nvme to do more writes than read, it's advisable to get 1TB capacity and with high TBW.
Even both 500GB and 1TB are of the same model, you will see the difference when you compile files from your video editing program. 500GB will be slower as compared to their 1TB model.
I don't rely on CrystalDiskMark for stats (Read/Write), it's based on my daily usage when compiling video or 3d files, which includes transferring of huge files .
the choice is yours as you can argue that you will do compilations on your HDD if time is not a factor to you.
but if you are doing the compilation on the same OS Drive, I would advise you just like yongkit, get a 1TB as a 500GB write speeds of most m.2 nvme drive are much slower compared to their 1TB of the same model.
As for the Liquid cooling, I find it impractical to purchase a 240 which is more expensive compared to a 280 liquid AIO, plus it's on an intel 12th gen chipset. As why choose Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280,
1) it's cheaper compared to other aios and out perform most 240 aios
2) It has more rad surface area and it's thick (38mm thickness)
3) It comes with performance fans which draw super low ampere. the theory is this. Arctic P14 PWM PST fans are rated at 0.12a as compared to other 140mm static pressure fans which normally rated above 0.18a to 0.25a, your PSU is working harder to push pressure static. else Arctic P14 does not require much electrical energy to produce high static pressure. Also your PSU will provide stable or more efficient power to your other PC components. Some user experience system reboot or crash, this is one of the reasons. they put too much high ampere fans and decorate too much argb. unless you are using 850watts or 1000watts PSU.
4) It has a vrm cooler..
you can skip the whole video and listen to what I said about the VRM readings or V

Thanks for sharing the details, super super appreciate it. One other reason i chose the Corsair H100i is to fit the overall white theme - i know it's a stupid reason. Let me see if i can fit the aesthetics as well. That said, are there any other white themed coolers (not necessarily liquid coolers) you would recommend?
1. Do i really need a 750w PSU? Saw a recommendation for 3070 to be 650W
2. Okay let me check out some deals
If i can find better components for a cheaper price than aftershock, wouldn't mind DIY-ing
Good point, I might just go with the 1TB Firecuda SSD.

Actually on the PSU, 750w seem a norm this days as more and more newer GPU will be requiring higher power output. Well unless you have no intention to further upgrade then maybe 650 is good. It is just preference

Coz......I really think buying a mid-high range graphic card at exorbitant prices now is really kana carrot deep deep but not much choices for gamers out there building their rigs during this chip shortage crisis....
I can only pray my own GTX1080 can last me until this chip shortage crisis is over (then upgrade?). And my "on standby" refurbished GTX1060 can still play decent games if the main GPU really uplorry.

Sorry my bad. is Seagate Firecuda 520 not 530 (530 is a waste of money).. plus even if you get it overseas, it's internationally covered. you can approach local Seagate service center to have them RMA. This apply the same to WD too.
As for AIO if you want white then no other choice, as performance liquid AIO like Arctic, EK or BeQuiet they are all black.
As for DDR4 Rams, as what ragnarok95 have mentioned. if you game alot.. it will be a good choice on getting rams that have clock speed at 3600 CL18, but if you are doing more on content, then 3200 works fine with CL14 to CL16. I find using 3600 with CL18 to compile content is slow.
this is in consideration of your overall package of Intel 12th Gen (8pin+4pin(optional) pcie) + 3070 (8pin+6pin pcie) + AIO, very soon you will notice the short coming especially for future expansion as you will short of pcie cable as well as power limit for your future hardware upgrade.
you can also look at your own pcpartpicker estimated wattage already close to 520w and you will need extra power headroom for the CPU & GPU auto boost feature.

Arctic 280 is really the best bang for bucks for aio, but if you really want white can look at lian li galahad 240 or 360, Corsair has always been overpriced locally.
