Not sure if it is my hardware or software problem...

Last night tried to batch convert, about 50 files at 1 go, using Handbrake but my PC will hang after a few files. Reset button doesn't work and I had to long press power button to restart.

What I'm trying to do is to batch convert AVIs to MP4s to transfer to iPad.

Anyone knows why my PC hanged? Due to Windows 10? etc??

Else can recommend me an alternative free solution? Thanks.

I'm also on Win10, Handbrake works fine for batch convert. Are you using custom settings? Try the stock settings as a test?

Which release are you using? Maybe can try using an older release if the new one has problems, or vice versa.

I used the stock setting. ie: on the right hand pane, I just choose "iPad".
Using the latest version from the official website.

Usually I hate dealing with iTunes. :s13: But no choice my boy wants to watch Peppa Pig cartoons on his iPad.

Will try with an older version see how. Thanks.

Maybe out of memory.

Nowadays if I need an encoder quick I just use Freemake 1 pass maximum bitrate. YouTube will reencode whatever you give it anyway.

Android 8 core A53 is way faster than Apple dual core or triple core Typhoon

Also if you want to avoid iTunes you can install VLC on your iPad, then use file sharing method to transfer your file over without reencoding. Whether it works depends on the difficulty of the video, but Apple and most phones should have no problem with H.264 level 4 hi profile.

Personally I don't use Apple devices as I hate iTunes.

If I direct transfer the AVIs and use VLC on the iPad can work? Oh wait, iTunes will not allow me to transfer AVIs right?

Handbrake works fine in Win 10. I have never had a case of Handbrake freezing in hundreds of hours of encoding.

Install VLC. Use file sharing method to transfer in iTunes.

Eg if u used adaptive mode, maybe jus need to tweak the offset...
