Please recommend me a GPU for video editing

Hi all, i'm using premier pro, most of the time I'm exporting 1920*1080, 60fps video.

It takes around 2 hours plus to export a video of length 40min, I already play around with the premier pro exporting setting, I can reduce the time, but the video quality is much more worst. So i'm thinking is it possible to shorten the exporting time by upgrade my GPU? My budget around $700, willing to add if higher end GPU is worth the price.

I don't want go out there and grab the $700~$800 GPU in the market, I worry my CPU will be the bottleneck to it.

Below is my 3 year's old PC spec, it's not high end though:

CPU: I5-9400F
MOBO: GIGABYTE B365 M AORUS ELITE
GPU: PALIT GTX1660 6GB OC GDDR6
HDD: ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO 512GB NVMe GEN3 SSD
RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 2666MHz 16GB KIT * 2
PSU: CORSAIR CX550M 550W
Monitor: Dell S2721DGF

Think you are looking at the wrong direction, that graphic card is in the supported list by Adobe.
Intel i5 9400f isn't a very fast CPU.
I would recommend look for a second hand Intel i7 9700k 8 core will have some improvements.

Do update the BIOS for the motherboard if you have not done soon.
Slow data transfer can also mean Windows issue or that ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO SSD is dying soon.
You can use Crystaldiskmark to benchmark it to ensure it is in good health.

Cuz I have a old ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO which died after many years of usage.
Point here Adobe premiere isn't like a game so upgrading graphic card won't have a big difference.
A faster CPU as well as check if your SSD/Windows is in good state.

FYI Nvidia have release studio drivers for Geforce graphic cards.

Which codec are you working with? When you export, take note of your GPU and CPU usage.

40min video taking 2 hours plus sounds like it's not using hardware acceleration.

If purely for video editing a Apple refurbished full 1 year warranty M1 Mac Mini with 8gb will export video far faster than your PC and cost 649.

You can splurge a bit for 16gb and you have a full fledged perfect computer for editing videos.

A new M2 mini with 16gb ram would cost 1152 and if you are a student you can probably get 100 off.

get a better processor. probably something with more cores. i7 12th gen will be good, for a start.


i think ssd also plays a part. change to a better/newer/bigger in size ssd

actually this is a good idea hor..

can take the load off the GPU when u stream or game.. can put on the iGPU instead..

but the iGPU cannot take that much load

Do you think you can share me the sequence? Let me try copy yours and see if it improve or not. I’m new to premier pro and there are so many setting/configuration, more i read, more i got confuse.

I select “Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)” under project settings. I monitor my CPU and GPU while exporting, CPU steadily at 100% load, while GPU is spike up and down between 50% and 98%.

Looks normal cuz CPU and GPU work together.
But such program is more dependent on CPU.

For Intel 8/9th gen are PCIE3 only.
I think he is suggest upgrade the SSD to PCIE4.0 but when install on a PCIE3.0
motherboard.

The SSD like Samsung 980 Pro PCIE will be limited to PCIE3.0.
Rather just get Samsung 970 EVO Plus since it is a PCIE3.0 NVME SSD.

The current samsung 970 evo plus controller have changed so it is no longer as fast as the older 970 evo plus, hence the lower in price too.
