I was recommended Plextor by bros here but no stock in SLS 2 weeks ago. So I went for Crucial.

Good SSD dun require much recommendations.

Ppl who knows just go to the shop and get them and install it in their system.

I was one who try a few brands like kingston, crucial, vertex, and at last settle for plextor in my system. The rest i sold it off long time ago.

Intel is also very good with the X25M model which they use their own controller. No doubt, it is fast, stable and quick response in all aspect, but they dun have sata3 with their own controller and i haven't the try the 520 yet.

So plextor is the one for me

Well, till today there is only ONE firmware used (400i) for 520.

Did anyone tried to use the m5 pro inside a laptop? I installed a 256GB inside a asus ux32vd and found that the laptop would reboot itself when the CPU is throttled under power saver option. When I change the laptop to a balance power option it will be ok.

Swapping out the m5 pro with a m4, the issues would go away. Just wanted to make sure I didnt get a lemon.

Interesting, installed in one Acer 756 and it the computer would bsod after 10-15 mins, not really sure what caused it. I noticed that if I didn't install any drivers/ applications that came is on the acer website, the laptop didn't bsod, but if installed these drivers and applications, the laptop would bsod.

It was a nightmare trying to figure out. At least 7 -8 fresh installs. I swapped the ram, the ssd and realized it was the combination of the power option with the plextor m5p. I think the problem came with a driver which I installed. Intel Dynamic Thermal Framework something. Had to install that or else I will have unknown devices. Once that driver is installed, I will get a setting in my power option that will undervolt the CPU in power saver option. Its a really good ssd but too bad it doesnt play well with my laptop.

Haha, did the same too, swapped out the ram and ssd and spent almost 3 days on it, but finally realised it was a driver issue, too bad I have no time to test for exactly which driver caused it

I'm using it. So far so good though I didn't notice much performance difference between this and my previous OCZ vertex 3. No performance and speed benchmark is performed anyway.

Yes, day to day usage little different with sata2/sata3 SSDs.
Gaming and benchmark do show more performance gain.

Plextor is a premium brand, and the price back then was hard to recommend over the cheaper Samsung 830, during their M3x series. Currently, the M5 Pro seems very attractive, in terms of price, warranty and chipset performance. I don't really like any of those SF based SSDs. Heard and seen too many disappointing reviews.

bought the 256gb m5p, installed with windows 8 on desktop. so far so good, my first ssd, it seems like no loading time on windows 8 other than bios stuffs!
