Pls help: Considering migrating back to iPhone

Last time I used iPhone 4 and then migrated to Samsung Note 1 and then Note 3. What made me gave up iPhone 4 was the very small screen, non-removable batt, too iTunes based and buggy home button.

However, since I heard that iPhone 6 will have 4.7 inch screen, I am tempted to use back iPhone again despite that I am using Note 3 and iPhone is likely to have 5.5 inch version as well. This time round it is also slightly different as I am looking forward to use iTunes to purchase MP3 songs. Moreover, I am using iPad mini at home.

Please convince me that I will be taking the right move. Below are my further considerations.

1. Cannot copy & paste. How often do I need to do that if I am purchasing songs and videos from iTunes? Perhaps when I need to transfer photos? iirc, photos can copy & paste?

2. If I want to plug in my thumbdrive to iPhone to read some MS Office documents, will that be possible?

3. Am I able to wirelessly transfer files to Android phones?

4. Is the home button still prone to malfunction?

5. Is the iOS slower than Android because of the slower processor and battery depletes faster since the capacity is smaller?

6. Are there other things I should take note?

Can't answer all your questions. But having owned a number of android devices in the past (HTC Desire, Galaxy Nexus, HTC One), I still enjoy the iPhone, but not every aspect of it.

The Good
1. iPhone is still having the smoothest UI. The transition between apps, the returning to home screen, the camera activation, all are consistently smooth.

2. Simple to use. Find things faster. Settings are not everywhere.

3. App designs are terrific. I know Android apps are catching up, but still iOS apps in terms of design and usability still tops Android.

4. Touch ID. I think is a good feature considering you can just unlock the phone by placing your finger on the home button. Download apps from the store or iTunes music with just your finger. It would be better if they can implement the Touch ID into 3rd party apps quickly though. Other platform has this feature poorly implemented.

5. Probably it's just me, but I still enjoy the hardware made by Apple. Feels like a personal device that will make you appreciate the design. When I place the phone beside me on the table, I will tend to look at it and pick it to view it on all angles. The curves, the reflection from the light, is enjoyable looking at it. Unlike those cheap feeling plastic build phones, feels like disposable stuff.

The Bad
1. I hate, hate to see WhatsApp notification in lockscreen showing my contact's "Nickname" instead of the name I have stored in Contacts. And when I receive a msg from outside the app, it will download again when you go into WhatsApp. Super annoying.

2. The sharing button. Sharing is caring. But iOS I don't think they are all that caring. Sometimes when I see a page in Chrome that I want to share with friends in WhatsApp or Line, I need to manually click on the URL bar, hold the box and Select All -> Copy, then go into Whatsapp/Line and paste it into the conversation... Lots of tedious extra steps.

3. Music. Using iTunes is a pain in the butt, but for me I worked around it by using Spotify Subscriptions instead. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

4. Google services. Android still has the best Google Services (duh, Google's own products). For my case, I like to share the photos which have been backed up by Google+. Usually if I have deleted the photo taken by my phone awhile, I can just go to Google+ to find it back and share it directly to anywhere. For iOS, need to save the photo into your Camera Roll again to share it.

5. Speaking of Camera Roll, $#^*&!!! Every photos shared in Whatsapp goes into the iPhone Camera Roll! I hate this really, cuz it will be backed up into your iCloud Photostream, taking up precious space. So I need to do a delete from Camera Roll and Photo Stream album to save my precious space. Annoying as hell!



Both platform is great, you just need to weigh the pros and cons that affects you the most. For me, I have sacrifice functionality and live with it, to enjoy staring at the pretty hardware.

I think for free ones, you are limited to listening to the Radio section, which randomly plays music from a certain Genre.

Just plug in your iPhone to copy to iTunes on your PC, or you can also use iCloud to automatically download all your purchases or photos to other iDevices without lifting a finger.

No, use dropbox

The slower processor argument does not hold water anymore. All iPhone processors are custom designed by Apple for iPhone only. All your Samsung, LG, etc use generic chips available on the open market and may not be optimised so even if Apple has a slower processor it is still waaaaaay faster and consumes less battery.
6. Are there other things I should take note?
If you have multiple iDevices is better than multiple android devices because of the more seamless syncing. iDevices don't play well with android though so you have to use workarounds.

i'm always puzzled by this. iTunes already supports wifi sync since many versions ago. when i add new songs to my iTunes library, i just use wifi sync to sync to my iPhone. no wires. y all e hate with iTunes?

slower processor doesn't = slower OS. my personal experience is iOS still much smoother than Android.

I think for free ones, you are limited to listening to the Radio section, which randomly plays music from a certain Genre.

Spotify free limits user to shuffle mode but u can listen to any album, playlist etc. it's also online only.

There is a setting in Whatsapp to not save shared media. Just turn it off.

4. The home button is now fine. But the 1st batch of iphone5 have a sleep button replacement from apple.

6. Not sure what the new iOS8 will have. but I would suggest stay with Andriod for now. Your usage pattern seems not to fit with iphone unless you jailbreak.
btw. I do have s4 and iphone. both have pros and cons but I enjoy and use the iphone 5 most of the time.

5. cant turn off auto save media on whatsapp? i know android have this feature. i think u can also choose not to auto save on icloud. just need to fine tune the settings

For me, one of the big pros of iOS over android is that I find the location services or GPS is much more accurate or catches on the updated location much faster. When I was using android, there were many times when android sgbuses app still tells me I'm in outram when I'm already at clementi despite refreshing many times.

u can copy and paste photos from ur phone to ur pc but not to your phone

No. u can use point one to transfer if you want or use googledrive ,onedrive or dropbox auto sync

i am using music FM to download music and funsion to download videos.u can use itunes to extract these music and videos out from your iphone without using any third party apps. Go to itune/click on ur phone/go to apps/scroll down for file sharing/loop for the apps/files u wants to extract is on ur right hand side. the power of itune which nobody knows

yes u can transfer all ur media even files in media out.

plug in ur phone/go to apps/scroll down for file sharing /click on ur apps/ur files are on ur right/drag and drop to pull them out


using the same way. u can drop ur files in the apps as a thumb drive but u are not able to view them.

Another plus point for apple:

Easy backup and migration
iCloud can do auto backup when charging and connected to wifi. So when charge at home at night, will auto backup.

Migration
Seems to me that when migrating from apple to apple device, all the contacts, whatsapp, camera roll, music, can be migrated VERY easily and seamlessly.

I not android expert, just from my experience, it's really isn't that easy to backup and migrate using android, even samsung to samsung.

For the average user, not looking to tweak or jailbreak, the iPhone still presents the easiest to use interface and reliability.

iPhone warranty support and extended warranty.
Believe this part still way stronger than samsung.

Was on iPhone 4 then iPhone 5 then I got envious of bigger screens and went with Note 3. Can't say I regret moving to Android however I am now wondering if I should switch back to iPhone 6 since it comes with bigger screen.

Its not that I don't like Note 3, just that the 5.7'' screen is kinda larger for me. Unlike ladies who put phones in their purse, my phone goes in my front pants pocket. So when I'm seated, I can barely remove/insert my phone. Minor inconvenience but still. I certainly appreciate the extra screen real estate when web surfing and replying emails.

Anyway, let's talk about OS instead of hardware. I was previous using iOS 6 with my iPhone 5 so I can only compare that with Android.

I find the cut and paste on iOS a lot easier to use. Even till now sometimes I have some problems with the cut and paste on Android. Just not as user friendly. Or idiot proof.

I have only had my iPhone 4 "die" on me twice. On both times I acted smart and tried accessing Yahoo mail via Safari instead of the iPhone app. Other than that no issue. Don't recall any issue on iPhone 5. So far with my Note 3, I have had my default email app go unresponsive on me several times. And my default music player, while still churning music, the screen would not respond i.e. I can't jump tracks.

And I don't hack my phones so I don't know why this occurs. Anyways, still find iOS more stable even though I do admit you can do less things with it. Definitely can't create my own folders and move videos or files around as I would on a PC or on Android.

Obvious advantage of Android is you have many different handsets to choose from. For Apple you are stuck. Take the iPhone or leave it.

After Android came out with kitkat, the butttersmooth experience totally stopped me from another iphone

wanted a big iphone so much since iphone 4s. now i'm satisfied with a cheap and good android phone.

oneplusone, xiaomi3, oppo 7a, 7. all beats iphone hands down for me.

please don't use samsung, htc, lg, sony all those **** money sucking flagship to compare to iphone, i will take iphone anytime.

iphone small screen makes me go android, samsung makes me want to go back to iphone, but the competitve prices with premium hardware makes me stop thinking about iphone unless iphone can slash away 50% of their price.

$500 for a iphone 6, maybe.


you can argue iphone got more apps or what. yeah right, are you going to pay for all those apps? there's just so many!

whereas xiaomi has their own market with tonnes of games FREE. yeah i save and i don't need to keep shelling out cash. if i really like the game, i will donate to thank the developer.
