Please help me to setup

I have got a 1812+ (with 5 HDD) , but actually cold storage it for a year ! - help to believe.

My HDD crashed. I lost my installation disk (i think it came it one.)

Please advise how to setup. I was trying to download the DSM 5.0,but I cannot get it from Synology website (only the update .pat file).

I only manage to get the Synology Assistant to help to connect...

1. Please advise where can I get a copy of DSM 5.0
2. I also noticed (i hope correctly) that my unit firmware need to be upgraded.

Thanks alot..

The .pat file is your DSM. Use the synology assistant to help you install. Just search for the NAS. Once found right click install, it would prompt you for the location of the .pat file. It would continue from there onwards. The installation disc that comes with the NAS is pretty redundant actually as all the software (latest somemore) can be downloaded from the synology website

Hi thks

I have been playing this whole night!

Ok. I used the synology assistant, found "diskstation"... when right click, it open a window, giving me this option:

Connect
Map Drive
WOL

I could not find the install.

Did I missed any step? Pls advise

You can use web assistance is better.

find the IP of your NAS on synology assistance.

used Google Chrome and type IP to the URL and you will go to web assistance.

choose option 1 to download the firmware automatically.

Alamaks... I think basic thing to do is to go to ur browser and type in the synology in address...

U will see a Web base user interface.. From there u go to storage manager and rebuild the NAS.

hahaha

I confused with my own accounts/admin. I got this more than a year ago, and, believed me, put in 5 HDD, set up the raid and a few account, and then cold storage it until now when my other NAS failed one HDD. was and still, using this as my all-in-backup storage dump. because I also got the drobo 5N at the same time... drobo is so easy to setup - though no much other function

So i do not even bother to learn the basic of the DSM.

Anyway, reset and working now. and has been backup..ing upto this moment...

BTW, I have added 2 addn WD 4T RED. Noticed that the 4T HDD is alwasy 2-3 deg hotter than the other WD 3T RED. Took about 36 to expand one HDD.
