Plug in, but not charging

HI,

my laptop Acer Aspire 4820T , many years back (freebie from singnet), had the above mention problem when i turn on my laptop. Basically i can't charge the laptop, once i disconnect the power cable, the laptop black out.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control" under the Device manager/ Battery category , but didn't solve the problem.

Is my battery dead? Whats the average shell life of a laptop battery? Normally how much it cost for a Acer battery?

Most laptop battery's lifespan is around 2 years. I also experienced the similar problem. I bought a third party battery at Sim Lim Square 2nd floor. Japan cells for 40++ bucks. Original ones would cost me 80-120++ bucks, quoted by some shops.
