Try Sync.com?

hi all, not sure if this falls under software cat. anyone subscribed to black friday those online cloud storage deals? thinking of using polar cloud? review seems ok but just wondering if the lifetime thingy is for real, will they like make u resub after 1 yr?

You can use your search engine to find 'Zero Knowledge cloud storage' then maybe put the date at the back like 'December 2020' for example. That would give you reviews from tech forums on which is the best for you.

Zero knowledge basically means that the encryption keys are stored locally on your device that even the service provider does not have access to and hence even their own Staff cannot access the data inside.

Among the zero knowledge providers, i am researching into Sync.com, pCloud, IceDrive, MEGA. Only Sync.com and MEGA provide zero knowledge for their free accounts if you want to try. pCloud and IceDrive doesn't and you have to either pay for it and an add-on or get it if you subscribe.

1 more thing; pCloud and IceDrive provide LIFETIME subscription. 1 time upfront cost and no further subscriptions. I suggest you check them out.

For mainstream services like Google Drive, DropBox etc, these have encryption at rest but I don't think they are zero knowledge providers. The fact that you can request for reset of password means that they store your encryption keys on their servers. Furthermore, their servers are on US soil which is not well known for privacy. It's better you find a service provider with servers located in Canada, Switzerland for example which have very strict privacy laws.

I am trying out Sync.com for now, for the following reasons:

1. Servers located in Toronto, Canada
2. End-to-end encrypted with AES-256, RSA-2048, and TLS
3. HIPPA, GDPR, PIPEDA compliant
4. Suports 2FA
5. 5 GB storage (free plan); upgradable to 20GB with referrals; + other paid plans
6. Unlimited version tacking and restoration
7. Unlimited file sizes
8. Unlimited upload/download quota

You can sign up using my referral link for an extra 1Gb (total 5Gb free + 1Gb bonus): https://www.sync.com/?_sync_refer=c00c61000

Or if you already have the service but have not entered a referral code, you can manually input my code c00c61000 under Settings > Sync Rewards > Details.

For the long term, perhaps I'll consider lifetime subscription to pCloud or IceDrive.
