Which was why I settled for GTX 1060 previously. I feel the increased in clockspeed definitely made this problem worst. Unlike Pascal, the chip does not seem to be designed for very high clockspeed, and therefore, it consumes significantly more power with a slight overclock.

If I had known the increase in performance will be so slight, I would have bought the RX480 Nitro+ with the free CIV 6 a few months back.

Partner cards are coming in at about low 1.2V stock.
The original RX480 was between 1.05 - 1.1V stock which is beyond the optimal frequency/voltage scaling zone. Remember dropping voltage on my own set from 1.1V down to 0.95V with a 110MHz underclock yielded on average 33% power draw reduction on GPU die package.

Its also observed in Ryzen, and then now polaris refresh... might be a thing with the globalfoundries 14nm.

Actually the 580 is cheaper than 1060 in market. Which turns out to be a nice gpu out of the box. But with the expense of more power.

It did well against the 1060 in most titles. Most dx12 titles did very well, and dx11 wasnt that great.

probably BL didnt bring in 4GB 580 (well need to check with PC website if they really dun have or have 4GB)
