Hi guys, i'm in a dilemma now and i wish that the hwz community can give me your honest feedback. Your honest feedback will be kindly appreciated.

My rig is undergoing maintenance right now. As you can see ---->

It is a custom water cooling rig, and it have surpassed the 1 year mark. And it is time to update GeneXis while im currently changing the coolant and just minor changes to the other water cooling stuffs.

Currently i'm thinking is it a wise choice to switch a mobo and CPU to something else or i can just retain it?

Here is what i have on hand.

MSI Z97 MPower Max AC
Intel i5-4670k

And what i have on hand and i want it to be in GeneXis.

1. Fury X
2. All storage
3. Optical Bluray Drive
4. All watercooling stuffs except reservoir
5. Rams (if necessary)

Now lets not bring budget into picture, but rather a wiser opinion/feedbacks would be much appreciated.

Is it better for me to move on to X99? or alternatively wait for Z107? or just retain the mobo and go for a updated i7-4790k and sell off my i5-4670k?

A mobo criteria must be of a standard that is able to completely turn off any x16 lane PCIE without the need to pull out the GPU or pulling out the power PCIE. So far my current mobo can do ceasefire of PCIE. So yea....

This will give me the flexibility to plug in another GPU for quick benchmarks in future without the need to use a test bench or to remove my entire water cooling to do simple testing.

Please state a reason on whichever selection you think its better?

gaming mostly, up to 2way sli = skylake
normal office work, microsoft office, web browsing = skylake
gaming and going 3way/4way sli = x99
professional video/photo editing and need fastest performance = x99
bragging rights = x99

either way i would not think of 4790k, the performance difference like not a lot...though the same can be said for skylake. but if upgrading nonetheless its like a free upgrade from devil's canyon for just a little wait.

if you think you will be benchmarking up to 3 way sli then go for x99? so there wouldnt be a cpu bottleneck. if not i read somewhere before x99 had lower fps than z97 in some games due to z97 being able to overclock higher and most games not being able to use up all 16 cores.

Bro i would suggest ssrr Skylake, wait for 6 core Broadwell-E in Q1 2016. I believe you have explored enough of the mainstream platform. Venture into the extreme enthusiast siao kia realm and enhance and advance your insights in PC tech. :s12:

By that time, you can:

1. Weight the pros and cons between Skylake-S and Broadwell-E
2. DDR4 availability widens and price may drop
3. More X99 motherboards with more latest features, i.e. M.2, U.2, USB 3.1, etc...

The bad:

by the time (end of March 2016), you might really gian for soon upcoming AMD Zen... :D

but then his watercooling rig need to take apart again. or he would be leaving his rig unsetup for half a year lol.

but that is also how i save money from upgrading frequently.
1. eyes gtx 780, waits for ti version
2. eyes gtx 780 ti, hears maxwell going to be 20% faster, waits for maxwell
3. eyes gtx 980, waits for ti version
4. eyes gtx 980 ti, hears pascal going to be alot better and tailored for dx12, waits for pascal

Conclusion:
GPU still can go 60fps in GTAV at high settings
Total $ saved = ~$1000*4

For benchmarking, Z97 results would be more relevant as X99 users are in a minority.

Wait for Zen, Skylake and Win 10 with DX 12 to compare. Not like your CPU and mobo failing anyways. Also, most people are using i5 so you can provide more relevant benches to the masses in the coming Win 10 with DX 12 launch. Just imho. ;)

1. Satifisfied with your current 4670K? Yes, stay on 4670k. No, go to 2.
2. Mind spending on a new motherboard and rams? Yes, get a 4790K. No, go to 3.
3. Thinking of going 3-way SLI? Need more than 4 cores? Yes, go to 4. No, go to 5.
4. Mind waiting until next year? Yes, wait for Broadwell-E. No, go for Haswell-E.
5. Do you need DDR4/any new features Skylake has? Yes, go to 6. No, go get a 4790K.
6. Mind waiting a few months? Yes, wait for 6770K. No, get a 4790K.

For cpu, performance difference between generations is not alot, mainly about features i.e. DDR4, Thunderbolt 3.0. Performance between i5 and i7 I think if you overclock, more or less will be the same. i7 vs i7E is worth considering, but also do you really need it. Based on raw overclocked clock speed, i7 might be able to overclock higher, especially if you going for only entry level i7E. For gaming and normal work, currently most likely wouldn't need so many cores. With directx 12 coming, maybe having higher clock speed and more cores then will have a greater impact? But that you also have to wait a few months before the benchmarks start coming in.

For now if getting 60fps at highest settings is all you need, save the money from buying x99/skylake/ddr4/motherboard to get crossfire fury X. if you still scared cpu not enough just upgrade to 4790K. plus i think 4790k thermals better so you need not delid if you want.

Depends on what your needs are and how long/whether you can afford to wait. It is better to wait for Skylake to be released before you decide since it provides you with more data to make the sensible choice.

Alright. Guys would like an opinion.

Since im a bluray fan. Currently it took about a good 1hr to 1.5hrs to fully rip a bluray movies into .iso 50gb format.

I forsee myself getting 2 to 3 titles per month. And within 6 months i would rip everything into my pc.

As of now my i5-4670k clocked at 4.5ghz can complete only 1 title depending on the length of the movie by 1hr+.

I will then reconvert it to playable formats for mobile devices. This will take an hour to do so.

Will an mainstream i7 benefit from an i5? And will an i7 extreme benefit over from the mainstream i7?

Is your Blueray ripping software multithreaded if yes then maybe if no then maybe not.
