Yes it utilizes hyper threaded workloads.

But just wondering how much difference does it make?

If its like 10-20mins differences then it should be overall save up quite a lot of time for 2-3 disc and 2-3 movies converted to mobile playable format.

Simple disable 2/1 core in bios or windows see any difference. Then take the values and plot a graph and extrapolate

Alright. Guys would like an opinion.

Since im a bluray fan. Currently it took about a good 1hr to 1.5hrs to fully rip a bluray movies into .iso 50gb format.

I forsee myself getting 2 to 3 titles per month. And within 6 months i would rip everything into my pc.

As of now my i5-4670k clocked at 4.5ghz can complete only 1 title depending on the length of the movie by 1hr+.

I will then reconvert it to playable formats for mobile devices. This will take an hour to do so.

Will an mainstream i7 benefit from an i5? And will an i7 extreme benefit over from the mainstream i7?

i7 vs i5 not alot, what you want is more cores. google for 5960X benchmarks? time you can save per video would depend on the video length and both the source and destination format. for a 2hr movie ripping to lossless mkv, i would guess you can cut from 1.5hr to 50mins from i7 to i7e, not perfect but more or less a reasonable scaling. this is considering you double the thread counts from 8 to 16, so you might take longer if you only go for 5820K with 12 threads, say 1 hour 10 mins?

since you say you're gonna be transcoding alot, the total time saved in the long run might make the move to x99 worth it for you. extra cores also come in useful as long as its a cpu intensive task, e.g. zipping.

the tradeoff would be the lower clock speed. plus in one video conversion benchmark in the techspot 5960X review, 4790K came in faster owing to the program not being able to use all cores effectively.

if u going for x99, i would still think it would be better to wait for broadwell e to come out, but that would depend on whether you can wait so long lol.
