In not so long before, I still remember companies use tape backup solution. It only alert me when a company had it office burn down and lose their server room and backup solution to the fire.

This make me want to know what Singapore SME had for their data backup solution.

What is your company backup solution?
  1. No Backup (Pray hard nothing goes wrong)
  2. Backup to portable HDD (Bring home every other night)
  3. Backup to Tape
  4. Backup to SAN/NAS
  5. Offsite/Data Center replicate (DR)
  6. Offsite/Data Center sync (HA)
  7. Backup to Cloud Service Provider

If you have other options, please share with me.

This could be easily mitigated by

1. Fireproof safe
2. Off-site storage.

All backup to NAS both servers and user laptop/workstations. It is good , fast and reliable .

Nowadays dualbay NAS is so cheap , although reliability still not to enterprise standard , but I am sure it will provide better disaster recovery than no backup.

Thank you for your solution. Yes, company did have fireproof safe and off-site storage.

But recovery from tape is confirmed a challenge. LOL

why challenge? Can always BMR.. no ?

If you can't even do BMR, doesn't it imply that your backup solution is done wrongly ?

Why your ex-company prefer to archived to DVD over other platform?

Probably legacy and unawareness. Didn't know any better. That's the way they always did it, and it was easier (to the boss) to keep doing it the same way than find out about better practices.

Oh!

That make sense! A lot of SME boss still not comfortable with IT, and try to spend as little as possible.

Suggest use Blu-ray Disc (BD). :s8:
