As you can see from the photo, the SSD occupies the M.2 slot which leaves the SATA port empty for a 2.5" drive.
(This is my FX553 that I bought from poly)

Hi there, may I ask if could you kindly highlight the part where the empty sata port for 2.5" HDD?

FX553 here

Positive:
If you are talking about performance, this laptop has an excellent price to performance ratio(poly roadshow pricing was $1174). Playing a light game like League of Ledgends, it can reliably get 120fps. I have also tried slightly heavier but older titles such as Dying light and GTA 5, both on high settings, and I get playable fps(never actually measured it).
I play games with an external 1080p monitor and a rgb mechanical keyboard.

The keyboard on it feels nice to type/game on as it has a nice tactile sort of bump when u hit the bottom(compared to other laptop keyboards with those mushy 'mashed potato' keys). However, if you own a mechanical keyboard, it still won't compare to that.

Negative:
The display. It has bad viewing angles, my eyes need to be pretty much parallel to the screen to see things without loss of colour. And even then, colours still look bad when I plug in my 4+ year old midrange monitor and put them side by side and compare them(the FX553 has a white hue over the whole screen). :slant: but given the fact that operation of the laptop requires you to sit still, it really does not affect day to day usage that much.

Fingerprint magnet. The top of the laptop and the area under the keyboard where your palms would rest are both fingerprint magnets as they are both made of matte-ish black plastic. Sweaty palms beware :s13:

That all from me, hope you found it useful :spin:

You'll should check out the new HP Pavilion Power 15 which is the replacement for the HP Pavilion 15, if you don't like to have a laptop that looks very garish or gamery. The old model is still on sale at clearance prices. The specs for the HP Pavilion Power 15 sold in Singapore has the i7-7700HQ & GTX 1050 (4 GB GDDR5). It has a Full HD IPS display as well. Probably best to wait for IT shows and see whether there are any discounts and promotions.

Specs:

With 128GB SSD & 1TB Hard Disk:http://h20386.www2.hp.com/SingaporeStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_6553740&opt=&sel=NTB

With 256GB SSD & 1TB Hard Disk:http://h20386.www2.hp.com/SingaporeStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_6555161&opt=&sel=NTB

The only time I got to see the pavilion 15 was at the roadshow so I can't really comment on that. But the reason that I chose the FX553 at that time was because of lower price and I did not like look of the keyboard deck on the pavilion 15.

You can refer to the official pricing on the links that I posted for the Pavilion Power 15. It has an IPS screen (better viewing angles and contrast than TN panel), USB Type C Port (data & charging only) and is lighter compared to the Asus FX553.

You can also consider the previous model Pavilion 15 which has similar specs (i7-7700HQ & GTX 1050) but lacks the USB Type C port. The lowest price that I saw was $1299 for the non SSD model (which you can add on your own).

Anyway, wait for the Comex show for discounts and promotions and then compare to your Poly promotion price.

im not sure about this model monitor, but base on what u say, in fact its using TN instead of VA (somewhat similar but slightly better but no better than IPS)
