I have a free M1 1GB mData SIM card that comes with my M1 fiber subscription. I also have a Singtel prepaid Sim card.

Can this M1 Sim card be used to make calls , whatsapp etc

Can I port the number on my Singtel prepaid SIm number to the M1 1GB mData SIM card ? How much would it costs to do that?

I don’t think you can port a free data Sim service to intend to use it a prepaid service. The free data Sim is attached to your m1 fibre and it cant be detached as a stand alone service plan.

Use WhatsApp is free, just deduct from your data bundle if you're using the data service, and no charges for usage on WiFi. This includes all Whatapp services like text, videos and even WhatsApp Voice Call.

However, normal GSM calls and SMS/MMS over M1's network are chargeable at prevailing rates, both incoming and outgoing calls. You better call in to M1 to confirm the pay per use charges for mData 1GB.

Also, M1 has lowered the amount of data to 500MB per month (SurfValue) for all new and recontracting customers of M1 Fibre from May 2017. It'll take effect once you recontract your M1 Fibre service next time, do take note of that.

Porting from SingTel Prepaid to M1 Mobile Broadband can be done.
Porting process:
- Bring your SingTel Prepaid SIM to M1 Shop and get $5 M1 Prepaid card. It's better for you to have all the SIM details, especially the ICCID, to minimise the risk of failure. Also, the subscriber must be the same, if not porting will fail.
- Request a $5 M Card instead of $15 M Card. Tell them it's for porting to Postpaid. (It'll be a random number before porting over.
- Porting will take place in the night, so it may take up to 3 working days for the full port over to take effect.
- Once porting is completed, you have to go to M1 Customer Service Centre Paragon / IMM / Change Alley to request for port over from M1 Prepaid to M1 Postpaid (mData 1GB). It may be free, it may be chargeable, you better call in to M1 to check on the charges.
- It may take one to two working days to be completed, but once completed, no more actions is required.

So which means, you’ll get a different service to what the existing mData plan for TS. You’re merely suggesting porting SingTel prepaid to m1 prepaid, then convert to mData Sim which essentially cannot replace the existing mData number? I don’t know if it’s intentionally misleading?

Technical as what @lohsenglte explained is correct.

M1 consider this as mobile broadband SurfValue (SIM only) as stated in the T&C.

As stated in FAQ calls & sms are chargeable, similar to most plans.

Also free mobile data once convert out may lose this benefit.
Telco do allow this as it is that you pay for use instead of free... why not as it benefit them more.

Do note that once you port to M1 the mobile number cannot be convert back to Prepaid.
M1 SIM only is Postpaid plan.

What you are about to do is port & convert Prepaid to Postpaid.
And/Or to have Change of Mobile number which is chargeable.
And/Or cost in Prepaid porting involved as new SIM card to replace existing M1 SIM card.

Currently our Telco have allowed convert Prepaid to Postpaid, as in one way.
This is due to no IMDA instruction on Postpaid to Prepaid.

In your case it may be benefit to take advantage of Porting promotion where up to $200 saving in phone contract.
Alternately normal SIM only with/out contract which may either cost 50% of usual subscription Or 2x mobile data.
That's why dual phone come in handy as use the free SIM as spare... and many other options available.

Anyway you can just use the free M1 as normal calls, sms and mobile data.
Charges as according to usage.
Refer to the FAQ.
Why bother to do all unnecessary procedure unless you want the mobile number.

The method I'm saying is to port over the number to M1 Prepaid, then port the number to M1 mData Postpaid.

The Prepaid number will therefore replace the mData number.

More like you don't understand and claim that I'm misleading. :s22:

cannot make calls one.
Take note of your recontract date, if not M1 will charge $20++ for the data SIM if you dont recontract.
