I'm looking at a portable DAC to use with laptop/mobile phone. Currently considering the FiiO BTR5-2021 but as this is my first portable DAC, any suggestions in the $200 to $300 price range would be greatly appreciated. Will be used for music and movies.

Do you need Bluetooth? If so, Fiio BTR5 will be great. I had it for 2 years now, the battery is dying already. I mainly use it to power HD6XX at work using USB and use it with IEMs during commute.

A better choice over BTR5 would be Qudelix 5K. It's app is better and it supports parametric eq.

Thanks, this is on my shortlist as well. Using both BT and wired.

For your BTR5, replacement battery if you are interested.

Thanks! I am considering upgrading to Qudelix 5K if my BTR5 dies because I do use Paramatric EQ a lot. My BTR5 battery used to last 6 hours. Now it only last 3.5 hours after 2 years.

I don't know how to open the BTR5 since its all glass and I won't have a way to close it back. Might have to duct tape it together after battery replacement.

There is a teardown video I looked at earlier. Looks quite doable. I would start with a heat gun to melt the glue though.

Yeah, better to heatgun a little.

You see he cut the video like that means struggled for a very long time before prying open 🤭.

Usually, I see this type of video I know sure gg and not as simple as it looks, from my experience doing all these things.
