thinking of buying a 2.5" hard disk enclosure for my old hard disk.

but then i see got some enclosure cost like $8 and some like $30+.

don't really care about the looks of the enclosure.

got any significant difference in performance, reliability and durability between an enclosure that cost $8 and $30?

EDIT: seems like my hard disk is 3.5" and not 2.5". still looking for a portable hard disk enclosure nevertheless.

$30 ones are probably USB3.0, while the $8 ones are USB 2.0

With USB 3.0 as the new standard and with the significantly higher transfer rates, might want to get the USB3.0 one IMHO.

IF you have one of the USB3.0 ports to start with.. if not just stick to the $8 ones.

Honestly, most 2.5 inch drives spins at 5400rpm, which is nowhere close to saturating what USB 3 is capable of. I rather u save the money and get a USB 2.0 ones.

Theoretically correct if you transfer large file all the time.
If you have a 7200rpm one or those with large cache size disk. Situation is a little different.

just checked... mine is samsung HD251HJ SATA 7200rpm.

so usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 more practical?

edit: after seeing the hard disk for the first time after 5 years, it doesn't look like it is 2.5". lol...

does 3.5" portable hard disk enclosure exist? i.e. no need a separate AC power, everything tap from usb.
