How old are you? Student or Working adult? Have you set aside emergency funds? Are you covered by insurance?

I'm 26, a working adult. I have already set aside 6 months emergency fund, purchased term life, upgraded my medishield and p/a plan.

I see.

With a 13k budget, I will leave out STI ETF and penny stocks.

Personally, I will choose 1 dividend-paying blue chip and 1 REIT.

Dividend-paying blue chips: Singtel, M1, ST Eng, Sembcorp, SATS.

REIT: MIT, MLT, FCT, CACHE, Suntec.

Do your own due diligence and take your pick. :)

If I were you, I will look at the time of investment instead. Why don't you wait for recession before pumping in the money? How much higher can we go? When DJI is all time high?

maybe you can have a penny (or mid cap), a blue chip, and a reit to start off

I agree.

On average, a crisis happens every 10 years or so.

Crisis in 1987

Crisis in 1997

Crisis in 2008

Probably another crisis in 2017 or 2018.

TS said that he is 26 years old. So, by 2017/2018, he is around 30 years old. Still young enough for investments. He should go into hardcore saving mode now. Save up a 6 figure sum by 30 years old. Then, when the next crisis strikes, buy all the blue chips at bargain prices. :)

What's your reason for leaving out STI Etf? If you don't mind sharing.

Yes, it's all time high. I was actually hoping to enter after the Feds started tapering it's bond purchase this September - if they do taper- (hoping there would be a 15% correction by end of the year, and that would be my entry point) I think that US economy is already sustainable even with a softer quantitative easing policy. Just an opinion of mine.

My reason is actually a story.

One day, DW felt like eating ice-cream. He went to an ice-cream store called "STI etf". Before DW can place his order, the store owner scoop a little bit of all 30 different flavors equally and put them in a big cup.

DW said, "but I dun want all 30 flavors......I only like certain flavors "

Store owner replied,"You have to buy all 30 flavours. You are not allowed to choose."

So, DW went to another ice-cream store called "D.I.Y."

This time DW asked the owner whether he can choose his favorite flavors. The owner agreed.

So, DW happily choose his favorite flavors, strawberry (Singtel), mint (starhub), orange (M1). The owner asked, "what is this ice-cream called?"

DW replied with a big smile, "I call this 'Power of CD' ice-cream"

Of course, there are also people who love to have all 30 flavours. LOL....=:p:s13:

So, you have to ask yourself, do you prefer to choose your own flavours or you dun mind having all 30 flavours?

Lets say the next crisis drop is aro 2017.

Before any big drop, there is also a big rise.. 股市大起了才会大落。:s13:

dot-com bust in year 2000 considered crisis? :o

In between those crisis that come every 10yrs, sometimes will also have one almost huge drop. Lol. You will be able to know it because it won't hit you very softly. :D
