My iMac has a Time Machine backup on an external Western Digital Firewire 800 HDD. If I do buy the MBP, I can connect this to the MBP by using the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.
Now supposing I find the 512GB SSD on the MBP insufficient and I decide to connect an external USB HDD to my MBP, am I correct to assume that ONLY the contest of the 512GB SSD get backed up by Time Machine to my Firewire HDD? The contents of the USB HDD (probably photos & videos only), will NOT get backed up by Time Machine to my Firewire HDD right?
Another question, my iMac's HDD is 1 TB and I think I have used about 800GB so far. Definitely more than the 512GB SSD on the MBP lah. Now I intend to use the Mac Migration Assistant and Time Machine to basically restore everything from my iMac to my MBP, just like how I used it to transfer everything from my faulty iMac to my current iMac.
I would presumably need to copy all my videos & photos from my iMac's HDD to an external HDD first and make sure the entire contents of my iMac's HDD is less than 512GB, then save a Time Machine back up before I transfer over to my MBP right?
