Post-diploma. Looking for a Uni course

I have currently serving NS. ORD Aug 2020. Im looking to get a degree as it is probably the minimum level of education if you want to do decent. (Just my view). I graduated polytechnic with a design diploma with GPA of 2.75. From my understanding, 2.75 is kinda impossible to enter any local uni. Therefore, im looking more towards private uni like SIM. However, i no long want to continue in design as it is a very challenging career path to take. Especially with my talent - GPA 2.75. So im hoping to venture out into other degree. From my understanding, even in SIM, different partner schools have different level of acceptance level in Singapore. Im currently looking at UOL's finance and econs but i prefer more of a project based course than exam due to my inexperience in exam. We don have exams in design. Im really looking to try my best and do well. Thus, im hoping to seek all your opinions on the varies courses and schools i should consider. Will really appreciate any help that is given.

Im also looking to take a gap year but im already 23 this year. Will it be more recommended to start uni immediately after i ORD?

i ord when i was 23 also, secondary 5 also.. i think just dont think so much, there will always be people lagging behind also.


Sec 4->jc-> plus ippt gold, minus another 2 months, den degree around 4 years.

sec 4->poly> plus ippt gold,minus another 2 months,den degree around 4.

Sec 5->poly and continue on

sec 5, ite to higher nitec to poly to ns and another 4 years for degree..

There will always be ppl starting earlier than you and later than you. so just do wat u want, gap year is good,take a short break first.

Hey thanks for the advice. I think I will just start immediately after I ORDed. Since I just ooced from SCS due to injury, clerk life should be enough "rest". I do understand where you're coming from. I still have half a year to consider and I will see according to my updated PES status as well.

I generally would recommend you to take RMIT Econs and Finance instead, it's easier to manage.

UOL Econs and Finance is a killer course. It's a bachelor of science which means they cover all
grounds and can be rather hard to digest. Further, stats 2 in year 1 is enough to wreck your brains apart. What more year 2, elements of econometrics... and year 3 QF which is way hard to pass.

And for year 1 EnF, you are taking 6 papers compared to others who are only taking 4/5 papers. But, if you are willing to take up the challenge then, go for it. Anyways, for UOL first year, you don't have any tutorials. The commentary on the VLE isnt much of a great help either...

To add on, for UOL exams, you are only permitted to use a basic calculator. However for maths 1 and 2, intro to econs, you arent allowed to use any calculator. So you have to be good with your mental sums. If you go for RMIT, scientific calculators are allowed, easier to do manage and after graduating you can go for CFA or smth. The only reason why people opt for UOL is for a 2nd chance in life to do well, get FCH and enrol into a local Uni for Msc etc ( just my personal view)

I was considering marketing in Rmit at first oso but the cost of the degree is much higher as well as the diversity of the degree may not be as deep as fne.

It's has a better standing because of the level of difficulty which makes the degree classification more prestigious than its counterparts. So that's why it's more favourable. However, it's not easy to do well.

Local business degree from NUS cost around $28,800($9,600 x 3) while SIM-RMIT cost $46,224 however wages for fresh graduate (private degree) is around $2,500 - $2,800 while local degree will be around $3,000 & above. Will a cheaper degree be better in term of ROI?

And also duration of degree and amount of modules when you look for job to convince your interviewer. Mostly UK university have 3 trimester and each trimester has around 3 to 4 modules which mean 3 years have around 27 to 36 modules. If you are the interviewer, can you convince if interviewee (fresh graduate) take a 1 year degree course with only 4 to 6 modules?

Misinformed - all accredited distance learning degrees are of the same footing in SG.

And try to do a PT degree instead - so you have the working experience to back you up.

Mhm I did think about that. Main reason why I want to take up a degree is to Branch out from my current design diploma. Designing, especially product design, dont really have a market in Singapore and my talent is insufficient to compete against oversea talent. A so call second chance

As I mentioned, with my current diploma, it's not easy to find a job that gives me valuable experience. I'm determined to do well so I won't be doing part time during studies. (I worked almost all time in poly. Something that I regret a lot at this point.)

Haha that's an interesting path but I don think I'm a caretaker kind of guy. Plus, tho the pay is good, I'm sure the nurse's work really make the pay worth.

If you want to enter private, don’t mind be nurse salary good.

James Cook and Curtin set up branch campus in SG. its not 'distance learning' like how Kaplan or PSB signs an agreement with the partner University to offer their degree programs in SG

for JCU and Curtin, they are the actual Unis here in Sg, so in a sense, you are studying with them directly.

JCU is famous for their psychology. not sure about Curtin. both offer commerce/business courses iirc. u can check their websites out. the other Oz Uni with a branch campus is Monash that's in KL i think ?

Sadly UOL one year is equivalent to 7 months to do 4 units. A total of 12 units for 3 years. 4 basic units and 8. further units. It is true that all private degree are treated equally. No idea why RMIT is almost 1.5x the price of a UOL degree...

As for Monash malaysia, i won't recommend it having studied there for a few months. There's a big difference in the standards in MY vs the main campus in melbourne before i decided to pursue a UOL degree at SIM instead.

Campus is also very small and the canteen food is bad at Monash Malaysia.
