Potential PSU fire hazard

For me, I'll only buy Corsair, Seasonic and Enermax PSUs, and I do have at least 1kW PSUs from these companies. Yes, I believe in having overpowered PSUs...

Honestly to be fair many user of pc especially from the pre-built system will not concerned about psu because it never be part of the advertised specifications as well as not much details in the user manual too.

Unless the user is adventurous to open up the case and check the PSU power and rating otherwise most of these specifications will surprised everyone how under power it was compared to the DIY power user even it was using high end GPU in the pre-built.

I can tell you prebuilt PC's 300-350W PSU is a whole lot better than chapalang Vios/ GameMax brand "500W" PSU. They actually deliver what they claim to and they last fairly long. Wattage is literally overrated in the DIY PC world, which is what chapalang PSU brands capitalise on with "500W" to get you to buy them.

Some mindset is if PC can work can already no need to spend so much.
While some budget is focus on having the best graphic card but other parts especially PSU
are skimp.

I do saw builds with a high end graphic card but paired with PSU like FSP.
Need not name these builders, some may know who.

Pray tell who is committing this mortal sin of pairing a high end graphics card with an FSP PSU.

What is wrong with FSP PSU? My last two PSUs were FSP made, the Aurum S and the current EVGA G+. GTX 970 and RTX 3070 also never explode.

FSP is usually found in prebuild system, in most cases, I don't find anything wrong with them. None failed over the years as well in my experience.

Mine died after 12mnths on one hot sun-day afternoon, it's a FSP Dagger, go through the troubles of RMA. So it's not coincidence.... Replaced with a Corsair and they have a recall... imagine take in take out out of SFF case so many time....

i think the risk is low in sg, doubt anyone here uses a Gigabyte branded PSUs.

Low risk not equal to no risk. The agent is suppose to take care of the recall for safety.
But power supply unlike vehicle. Some user may not go online to register for warranty, so it is hard for dealer to trace who actually bought one. Do check with dealer if they did the recall program.

Update on the exploding Gigabyte PSUs from GamersNexus. If you have one of those, definitely replace it unless you want your PC to blow up.

You are right. Usually those "prebuilt" is so call the true power rated PSU. DIY one many of the rating is so call peak power output.
