Hi Gurus,

I had been running on Andyson 530w for around 3-4 years.

Qn, if I am changing to a new mobo, CPU, ram and GFX. do I need to change the PSU?

I am looking to get Ivy I5 with nVidia 760 and 16 gb of ram. Trying to keep budget to around 800 for all the items... Thus, if I can save on the power supply, I would have a bit more room... else might have to downgrade some parts?

$800 doesnt sound like can get so much things like u wish to.

Do u really need 16 GB ram? Do u do video editing or virtualization?

I dun trust andyson brand so its best to get a good and reliable brand like seasonic, superflower and FSP.

u can get those bundle for the 760 with PSU.

edit: do you really need that much RAM?

i don do any video editing or virtualization. but i do some data analytics and visualization using tableau and stuff..

1. overclocking
CPU I5 - 3570k Mobo ASrock Z77 Pro 3 $ 442
Ram G skill 2x4gb $ 96
GFX and PSU MSI 660 TI with SF HX 600 w gold PSU $459
Grand Total $997 - over my budget. however, i have a xigmatek heat sink, so i can oc the cpu.

Scenario 2 No overclock
CPU I5 - 4670 Mobo ASrock B85 Pro 4 $409
Ram G skill 2x4gb $96
GFX palit 760 $350
GT: $855 - slightly over budget. risk is that re-using PSU and it might not support this config, might have to take out more cash. in addition, my xigmatek heatsink would be wasted.

Scenario 3 cheapest
CPU I5 - 4570 Mobo ASrock B85 Pro 4 $382
Ram G skill 2x4gb $96
GFX palit 660 $290
GT: 768 - within budget. probaby the best performance i can get with such a tight budget?

Is your PSU still under warranty or working fine without any funny noises? Btw Im on 620W Antec PSU with 760 SLI and its more than enough provided no overclock... Max TDP for 760 is 170W... Even 500W for one card is overkill...

well, so far theres no prob.

Maybe i can switch out the GFX and PSU from scenario 1 and swap with gtx 760..

IMO with $800 budget, the best you buy components that could last you for 2-3 years only before you could not even play a single ****. do not spend too much on one expensive item and think that next time you can buy other expensive so that you do not bottleneck that previous expensive item. I don't like to future proof my items. Just buy the components that can last you for that amount of time and "throw" all away when it doesn't work anymore.

Get average priced components. i prefer your option 3 but your CPU is too expensive. get IB or SB chip. if possible, do give a thought about sshd. it will be faster bootup and shutdown time compared to your louya computer right now.
