Hi all

Planning a first time trip to bkk.
Understand that Pratunam is a fav location for singaporeans. Bros from here also shared that Pratunam has more shopping malls.

As shopping is not my cup of tea, and i do not plan to buy much back, I am looking at staying at Sukhumvit, near the Emporium. Mainly for the nice food court and cinema, and from my limited research, the lively road side stores. Looks like a good place to chill.

Can help to give feedback on both areas? Or help recommend some nice area to stay too!

Thanks in advance.

If you are into good food and cinema. Sukhumvit is a better choice. Many good cafes and restaurants in sukhumvit, especially in thonglor area. Cinema u can find it in emporium and terminal 21.

Wah, you dun walk you wanna take cab? The traffic jam along the roads in tat area is crazy. Walking is much faster even though the distance is tad far. Made the mistake of taking cab once ... see the meter jump until my heart ache, although its still pretty cheap in the end ;) ... but the waiting in the jam ... :(

Bro, sukhumvit is a long road wor.

https://plus.google.com/local/Thailand/s/big c?hl=en&gl=sg

Click on the 3rd one - Big C Ekkamai Road

Its abt 15min walk from Ekkamai BTS though. I went in there for a look while on my way to Healthland Ekkamai. I find it smaller then the one opp central world. There is a Major cineplex beside Ekkamai BTS n the famous sukhumvit soi 38 food str is also nearby. So can whack all 3 locales in a go ... 4 if you like the press press at Healthland :D

Ekkamai gateway is a japanese theme shopping mall.
have research that when planning to stay jasmine grande there ...
kinda cheap and is 4.5 stars hotel with big rooms lol ...

I would say the big BIG C is at thailand cultural center that area.
big c extra ... many locals there ...
hardly find tourists ...
the counter there dont speak eng as fluent as the centralworld big c ...

Sukhumvit is a much better location if you are not intending to do hard-core shopping at pratunam. It's more accessible to travel around bkk.

Just find a hotel nearby T21, there u can take BTS to Central World area (Pratunam) or if need to can take MRT to Union Mall etc.

Interchange for BTS & MRT. Convenient to travel around.

For myself, I dont really go platinum mall. Big c is ok for me.
So would stay hotels near bts, then can alight at BTS chitlom, then walk to BIG C ....

I think stay around bts station at sukhumit is good.
For example, stay around those area nana, asoke, ploenchit, chitlom ...

You can then take bts to
(A) Asoke : Terminal 21
(B) Thong Lor: Eat the famous mango rice
(C) Chitlom : Centralworld, Big C, Platinum Mall, Pratunam market
(D) Siam: Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery center
(E) National Stadium : MBK
(F) Sala Deang: Patpong night market (not recommended , things super ex)
(G) Sapkhan Taksin : Asiatique
(H) Mochit : CTC
