Hi, I have a nerve issue in my elbow/arm. Went to see specialist last month, specialist say can't do much, only permanent solution is surgery. I don't want to continue ****ing my arm up during BMT so I'm thinking of declaring to further downpes (from B2). But my specialist mentioned declare during NS so surgery fees all covered by SAF. Is he right? If I wait for enlistment to declare, I waste my own time doing BMT. But If I declare before enlisting, will SAF cover my surgery fees?

SAF cover service injury, meaning injuries sustained during ur training/NS . If they find out your injury has been flagged before enlistment, even you declaring during bmt, they can reject to pay for you.

anyway, all these aside, did you ask if your hand's condition can afford to wait until BMT then declare? Will your chances of full recovery be affected?

for your info, you report sick for this during BMT, will not go for surgery immediately. you will have to see MO la (BMT MO reputation on attitude towards recruits very bad), take x ray la, do investigation la (to explain why got this injury), make appointment etc etc. who knows when you will get to do this surgery.

The pain only trigger when do physical activity like gymming so it's not so bad but obv something I need to resolve in The long term.

But since I went referral through poly then see specialist, they can see on my medical record that it's preexisting issue right? I'm assuming our medical system is that connected la.

You are PES B2 for what reason?

How are you wasting time when you are still going in for 2 years? Is not like you don't go for PES B2 your liability will shorten.

really? Are you sure they can reject if it has been flagged before enlistment? So those people who enlist as PES E for any sort of medical reasons they might have, they aren't covered during NS for any medical treatments they require after enlistment?

Actually hor, if TS was referred to a restructured hospital by a polyclinic before hand, he would have already been considered a subsidised patient. He doesn't need to see MO to get referral again ma. he only see MO so that he can get his PES reviewed.

So you are still gyming now?

i'm not very sure but I don't think the SAF medical and the outside public health medical are connected directly.

if you feel you can wait, then wait until enlist then see what SAF will cover for you. if they cover the treatment or part of it, then thats the best, if not, no change from what you have to pay anyways.

Just enlist as per normal and report sick on the first day. Tell the tekong MO your arm got injury and cannot take part in training. Bring along any memos and records you have.

He will refer you to specialist outside, most likely CGH. But this will take god knows how long, probably a week to 1 month.

Thereafter just follow through with your appointments at CGH, let the doctors there know about your past records at other hospitals so they can arrange for your surgery.

Important thing is for you to ENLIST then report sick. Get 11B and use it to cover your medical fees. Surgery and hospitalization is all covered, I know because I did it. Don't delay your enlistment since the earlier you go in, the earlier the 2 year clock starts ticking.

Enjoy your long MC.

If he already seeing a specialist now, I don't think there's a need for MO to refer him to another one.

If money is not an issue, then you should immediately see specialist and make appointment for surgery to be done asap. If you are able to recover and be combat fit, by all means try to perform well for your NS, you never know when your NS records will play a part in your career, especially for public sector. The surgery may also allow you to downpes if lets say the damage is permanent or long term, so you will also be assigned accordingly based on your pes status. This will speed up operational efficiency for the relevant departments and also prevent unnecessary inconvenience to yourself and the others around you.

1) Their medical system not connected.

2) Ask your specialist write letter for the purpose of down pes.

3) Only service injury is covered. Since it is preexisting not covered.

4) Since not covered, might as well do surgery and get temp PES.

5) If your condition improve, you up PES again, then go thru normal BMT.

Alternatively, screw your arm during BMT and you can claim service injury.

Service injury report needs to be done by S1 and most of them are lazy POS. There are recruits who get injured but don't get the service injury card.

3) Are you sure about this?

5) claiming service injury for something you didn't declare before hand. not sure if that's a wise idea at all
