Background: Last year I went to do a MRI scan for my lower back as I was having chronic backache. The orthopedic doctor diagnosis that my lumbar softbone already wear and tear, so essentially its bone on bone action. He wrote a specialist letter to MO and recommended temp down pes for me. I was quite puzzled because he explained to me that my condition will not improve nor will any surgery actually help. But nevertheless, I didn't question further. I was passed onto medical board for pes review and given temp pes of C2L2 for a year.

This year, I was served SAF100 to go for medical review for my condition, I went to another orthopedic specialist as I changed company and so the coverage is different. I explained my condition to the doctor and showed him my MRI from last year, he concluded what I said is true and there's no further action except to recommend a perm down pes for me.

Went for my medical review today, doctor say although the specialist letter helps but because my MRI is taken last year, it might not be admissible for my case and thus the specialist letter might be voided as well. I was quite angry because it seems redundant to take MRI again when my condition will not improve and even the specialist agrees that Medication or Surgery will not help. The MO point is that with the new MRI, they can see if my condition worsen or not. This infuriate me even more as it seems that the Doctor is only willing to give perm pes if your condition is going downhill but if its constant, you are not going to be given any priority!

How? Can I write letter to anyone for help? :s22:

medical review doctor you mean the MO?

Whether it is admissible or not is dependent on the person making the decision right? I doubt anyone of us can make that call here on whether it is admissible or not.

If the specialist letter + MRI from last year only warrants a temp PES, I can see why they want a new MRI.

Yes yes, I meant the MO.

The specialist letter is from this year (Just 2 weeks ago actually) who took reference from my last year MRI scan. He also agrees that my condition will not get any better as its a wear and tear condition, softbone won't heal or can't be repaired through surgery :(

ya that's why i can understand why the MO doesn't accept.

cause if the the specialist wrote the letter last year based on last year's MRI, and you only get a temp PES. that means to them it is not conclusive that it is a perm thing.

so if this year the specialist write the letter based on last year's MRI, essentially there's no diff if he/she doesn't write anything. cause his basis is the same
