Sometimes the price is lower than other competitors. I suspect every shop will try to track the prices of other shops to remain competitive.

Also, I suspect distributors may have a fixed Recommended Retail Price (RRP) or manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). Basically they tell the retailers to sell at the same price. This sounds anti-competitive business practice to me.

A shop trying to circumvent that restriction cannot advertise openly it is offering a price lower than the "official" one from set by manufacturer or distributor.

Your stating the obvious, reason why people call is to know the prices 1st so u can make comparison with online stores and know how much savings u can make like travelling etc and also know if they have stock or not

1. Before going those ah neh shop, check a few cina shops get an idea what is the normal/average price in SLS.
2. Then go ah neh shop ask how much. Ask him what's the best price he can give.
3. He reply liao then u already know higher or lower than average price.
4. Then u can press further say pay cash can give more discount.
5. See his response. See if his head shakes, bobbles or wobbles. If hit your target price liao, then buy lor. If still not as low as you want, then no need talk further.
