Private or Public Polytechnic @ age 24?

Dear all

I am 24 , currently working. Decided that a basic education would be necessary instead of squandering my time away.
I have one dilemnia - Private or Public Polytechnic? Will be majoring in business.
Private -> Part-time Kaplan (Dip) @ 24 yrs old-> Part-time Kaplan @ 26-27 yrs old (Deg)

OR

Public -> Full-time Poly (Dip) for 3 years, 24-27 yrs old -> Part-time/full-time degree @ 27-30 yrs old


Of course discounting the fact that Private is a more assured route, despite its higher cost, with a shorter duration while Public institutions ultimately is still more recognised, though takes a longer time to finish.

Currently if my working prospects lie in SG, and i intend to work in SG. Which would be a better option given my age?

What are u working as today?
Can co offer career if u have a degree?
Is co offering some $$ for your edu?

General rule of thumb, go mainstream if you working in public sector. If you in private sector, just take the fastest and shortest route since outcome is the same.

In fact if you go Kaplan, you only need 8 mths diploma plus 18 months degree.

Go for private if you intend to go all the way to degree. Most poly student who cannot enter local uni also end up in private degree.
As long as private degree is recognized in the country it is from, then it is recognized in public sector as well.

Moreover it is win-win you gain experience while studying part time. Con is tiring work + study eat up a lot of time. Go for those diploma that can link you to the your degree. I think UOL and SIM diploma might be a better choice.

To the TS, what qualification do you have? IMO, it is never too old to start studying.

if you take a private degree, best to go private sector. your future is brighter there.

You are right. I am just worried that Private's not as recognised and that's what many are saying; but I have seen successful examples of people with private education rising up.

Qualified for a local Polytechnic but...

Hi hello, since u qualified for a local poly, then just go for it. In terms of recognition and things like reputation, definitely local poly would be more well known and better than private poly. If u done well, u can even go on to local uni, if not then just go for a private deg the next time round. At least your poly diploma is local and that should add value to your resume better also. Just my 2 cents worth and hopefully it helps

I advise you to go for the local polytechnic.

The prospects are better, the reputation is better and you still can get a private degree if you fail to qualify for local degree. Even a local polytechnic + private degree looks better than private diploma + private degree.

To be honest, private diplomas are really.. useless.

More importantly, you'll learn more in local polytechnic. The stuff that they teach are very broad and in-depth. It's more important that you are able to learn knowledge and apply them, rather than getting a piece of paper. At the end of the day, your boss also look at results right? Private diploma don't teach **** and you're just covering the surface. Your poly knowledge will become very beneficial when you study degree.

At the end of the day, it's gonna be a longer route but that few extra years will pave a brighter future for you, giving you more potential to grow. It's still worth it.
